Check how he got out of the cage and reinforce it if needed, what kind of cage is it? And if he escapes again put a dollop of peanut butter in his cage and leave it open on the the floor overnight, he'll find his own way home.

If your cage opens from the top put a couple of heavy books on to weigh it shut. I used 1then 2 and she still opened it.

Our hamster escaped 3 times. The first time we found him up a corner, the 2nd time he was just sat on a box and the 3rd time we thought he had gone for good, even though he couldn't get out the room. He suddenly appeared out of the curtains.

He had a new cage that very night and so far so good.

Glad you're turned up.

Once a hammy gets a taste for freedom, they are likely to do it again IME.

Just seen the massive typo in my post. Blame autocorrect -or Brexit--

I looked after a hamster once and she escaped several times. I was once alerted to her whereabouts by the cat doing that tap-dancy thing they do when they play with prey. I ended up putting the cage in a large, clear storage box.
