What organs are in the appendix area?

I've been having long term pain in this area (almost 2 year) which has been more constant and more intense the past few months. Ovaries scanned and all ok. So what else could possibly be causing ongoing pain? It's mostly a dull ache which doesn't stop me doing much but recently has, at times, had me doubled over unable to move and in complete agony for about 45-90 minutes then it eases off and for days it is so tender.

Pain doesn't seem relevant to periods/ovulation as it's the majority of the month and I do have IBS which has always presented on the left side. However I do have a colonoscopy soon so that should rule out anything bowel related.

No pee issues. Low level infection in blood tests done a few times over the past 18 months.

I am starting to wonder if it IS the appendix and it's irritated or something.....or is it not possible due to the length of time I've had this.

Just feeling miserable tonight as it's quite sore this past few days and my GP is trying to figure it out but it's taking ages (not his fault just waiting lists etc).

It's mostly intestines as I understand it. Grumbling/irritated appendix is a thing, apparently.

I hope you get answers soon!

You can have a grumbly appendix, it’s not always acute onset.

More than likely it is your appendix but it's very hard to asses with imaging/scans. Have you had an blood tests done recently? It's the only sure way to know if it's appendicitis. It doesn't sound like it is as you would be in far far worse pain. But it could still be bowel/IBS/'grumbly' appendix related.

Yes I keep thinking it couldn't be appendicitis as I've only ever had short burst of extreme pain which subside.

Bloods last done end of Nov showed slight infection as did another 2 blood tests before that. Nothing major though.

I think you may have a hernia. I've had three.

TinselAndKnickers · 16/01/2019 00:47

I could have written this post! I have been admitted to hospital with severe pain exactly as you describe 3 times in the last 2 months but keep getting sent away with no painkillers or any clue what it could be Sad I have fibromyalgia so the pain is unbearable most days! Fingers crossed you have an answer soon Flowers

There's a rare congenital condition called Mekel's Diverticulum, the pain from which is very similar to appendicitis.

My mum suffered with this for around a year.
Pain got worse one day GP sent her to A&E.
Docs were unsure what to do as didn't seem like appendix but a CT scan confirmed her appendix were inflamed they took her straight to surgery.

My sibling was in excruciating pain, intermittently over two years. He went for every test. Eventually he got his appendix removed and has been perfect ever since. I hope you figure it out.

Felt a lot better this morning then it's come back this evening.

If it was a hernia would I not have a bump around the area? I had considered hernia too but no bump anywhere.

I am convinced there's something there whether it's 'just' appendix or something else but hate going back to GP when he's sent me for a few tests already and keeps saying if it gets worse we will go from there.
