What do you do on a date night?

So DH and I have a night to ourselves this weekend. We'll be going out for dinner but I find we eat so quickly we're done in like an hour 😂 normally love going to the cinema but nothing we want to see, one of us will most likely need to drive, what do you do?! We're quite lucky in that we get quite a bit of time to ourselves so we don't need a blow out, it's January after all ha, but I'm just curious as to what other couples do when they get a kid free night!

Not call it date night, which is the first rule. A bit like not mentioning a film in the 1990s with Brad Pitt in.

UserMe18 · 15/01/2019 21:48

Date night was a bit briefer for a topic title than "night out with your partner without the kids" I don't use it in RL! So that's what you don't do, what do you do?

Hmm I’ll give you a proper answer OP.

We go bowling, sometimes we just go for a drive somewhere scenic, we go to a pub before or after a meal for drinks (even if one of us is just having Diet Coke). Any pubs with bands that you could go watch for a bit?

UserMe18 · 15/01/2019 21:56

You know what I'm actually having a pretty shit night on my own, I had one thing to look forward to this week and I was just reaching out for a bit of conversation and some ideas, I know you have to be careful posting on forums like this, I thought what I'd written was "safe" as I wasn't looking to be mocked, but no not possible. Forget it.

C0untDucku1a · 15/01/2019 22:00

COmedy nights and drinks after

Binpedal · 15/01/2019 22:00

Ignore the nasty cunts on here.

We go for a meal or to the cinema. Sometimes just a walk and a drink if we are skint. Just nice to be alone Smile

Enjoy!

MsSquiz · 15/01/2019 22:00

We sometimes just have a date night in the house. DH will usually cook (I do 90% of the cooking usually) then we'll have a bottle of wine and watch a film or something we both enjoy on TV.

We don't have kids though, so I appreciate you may want a night out of the house!

What about a comedy club? Or something totally random like a ghost hunt?

donttakethebiscuit · 15/01/2019 22:01

There’s some lovely restaurants by us so we usually get dressed up, which is something we don’t do much since having the kids, and go and have a nice meal and a drink and talk. Sometimes we’ll go to the cinema or we’ll go for a walk in the dark.

BifsWif · 15/01/2019 22:04

Bowling is a good idea, we do that too sometimes.

Do you have to go out? We sometimes stay in, get a takeaway and a bottle of wine and either play on the kids Switch or get the board games out.

UserMe18 · 15/01/2019 22:06

Thank you all, faith in humanity restored and paddy diminished! I wish there was somewhere scenic around here to walk at night, too rural so too dark or local city most likely get mugged after 8 😂

my mum has our kids every saturday night so we have date nights most weekends and tend to either a) stay in, have a takeaway, watch movies, and enjoy some time alone without having to worry about being too loud or a kid walking in, or b) go to the pictures and for a meal. very occasionally we’ll go clubbing. our last date night out though we went to the roller disco where we first met! we were the eldest people there but it was so much fun and definitely something we’ll be doing again.

Thehogfatherstolemycurry · 15/01/2019 22:10

Ignore the twats op. X
A few times a year our kids go on scout camp so we get a whole weekend off.
We're pretty skint and can't often afford to go out so we get a bottle of wine, pizza, watch a film and have sex without the worry of interruption 😂 and we get a lazy lie in next morning - bliss!
Enjoy your night off ☺

alste · 15/01/2019 22:10

We go for a curry then go get pissed and sing karaoke, wake up the next morning vowing never to drink again.

Sometimes we have a date lunch where we're much more civilised 😜

PandaG · 15/01/2019 22:11

Cinema, dinner out, takeaway in, film or tv binge, board games, pub quiz, crossword or similar paper puzzle, household job together then any of the above...

elasticfantastic · 15/01/2019 22:18

I didn't realise there was anything wrong with the term date night?! I love a date night with my DH!

For us that usually means me actually shaving my legs and putting makeup on haha! GrinGrinGrin

We usually go somewhere nice for food and then to some bars for drinks. We ban each other from checking our phones! Sometimes we go to the cinema and then for food.
This sounds really dull but recently we decided we need to do something "together " in the evenings because we have got to a stage where we sit in front of the tele every night... so we've bought a massive jigsaw puzzle to do together! Loving it! And last week we played Jenga and battleships! Sometimes it's just finding something that you can do together Smile

Have a lovely time whatever you do x

UserMe18 · 15/01/2019 22:22

Leg shaving?! It's not an anniversary! 😛

elasticfantastic · 15/01/2019 22:25

GrinGrinGrinOP... it's almost getting to be more of an anniversary event! Haha!
