Which UK politician (past or present) do you feel the most visceral hatred towards right now?

Me: 1. David Cameron although of course it is a very close run thing with 2. Boris Johnson and 3. Nigel Farage - nuff said.

  1. Jeremy Corbyn - but actually I can't bring myself to hate him all that much for not putting up a strong Labour campaign against Brexit because he never pretended he was a Remainer himself. He is and always has been pro-Brexit from a different angle. He probably shouldn't have been elected leader in the first place.

I've voted Labour in the GE for the entirety of my voting life (since 1983) but at this moment I don't actually feel any anger towards Theresa May - I rather grudgingly admire her. She knows her time as leader is short lived. I have yet to see anyone saying anything tangible about how they could have done it better!

Dh and I are both passionate, passionate Remainers. But we can't support a second vote - it will result in the most horrendous civil unrest! Anyone who thinks the 48% who voted to leave the EU will just quietly accept a different result from a second referendum is deluded.

And so I come back to most visceral hatred for a political figure just now = Cameron for putting us here. It sickens me to the pit of my stomach, thinking of him living his rarified, cosy, massively over-privileged Eton-educated life in Chipping fucking Norton, earning millions as a public speaker off the back of his very short time in politics, running away from the mess he created. What a complete and utter ARSE.

Thatcher, the start of years of policies & practices encouraging peoples' selfishness, materialism and greed.

CandidCat · 15/01/2019 22:41

A tie between Johnson and Gove, although there are so many snakes in the grass it's really tough to narrow it down at the moment!Sad

daffodilbrain · 15/01/2019 22:42

Cameron! Then Corbyn for being a weak opposition leader

Always hate blair as default.

Cameron & johnson are responsible for this mess and tucked tail and RAN when the brown stuff hit the fan they'd built.

Osborne and mogg are generally pretty unloveable arent they. If brexit wasnt on i think theyd be top of the list.

McWilde · 15/01/2019 22:43

Ian Duncan Smith, pure smug evil.
Thank fuck he has zero charisma or intellect, if he had a brain he'd be dangerous.

bibbitybobbityyhat · 15/01/2019 22:43

Well no surferjet, I can't explain why David Cameron decided we should have a referendum! But that's not what we're discussing between the two of us. I asked you for your theory on why Tony Blair is to blame for our present predicament, because I can't see the connection. How has that worked itself around in your mind to asking me to explain to you why Cameron called the referendum? Confused.

OP posts:
BMW6 · 15/01/2019 22:43

I blame Edward Heath

Riotingbananas · 15/01/2019 22:47

Corbyn. No balls.

somewhereovertherain · 15/01/2019 22:47

The fucking lot of them are self serving pricks. Even the comes across as helpful but really is a complete wanker local mp.

HildaSaysWhat · 15/01/2019 22:48

Cameron for allowing the start of this bloody car crash

then Farage

I hate to credit Farage with any success but he was successful in inciting the most petty, jingoistic, nationalist, racist fucking idiots to believe that a referendum was needed. His lying, putrid frog face was everywhere telling people how the EU was screwing us, letting in immigrants to steal our jobs, pulling money away from our beloved NHS. All lies. But because he (inexplicably) sold his man on the street, fag and pint in hand, utter bilge persona, discontented idiots listened. The man couldn’t get elected to a seat in our parliament, despite trying SEVEN times. He should be utterly ashamed of himself for the part he played in causing the horrendous situation we find ourselves in today.

cromwell44 · 15/01/2019 22:49

David Cameron agreed to a referendum to appease the right wing of his own party. Didn’t have the balls to face them down. The recent leadership challenge showed how little support the ERG have within the Conservative party.
Yes, Cameron definitely to blame for this mess and so deserves the hate. A referendum on a complex issue, decided by a simplistic question, with no need for anything more than a simple majority and it to be permanently binding? Genius!

JarlBalgruuf · 15/01/2019 22:49

All of them. All of this. I hate everything about politics right now.

shortsaint · 15/01/2019 22:50

Cameron for sure.

I hope his political legacy is that he goes down as the WORST PM in modern history.

And I still do not understand why people hate Blair. Under his stewardship UK was positively steady compared to now. Plus ANY Tory PM would have gone to war in Iraq.

HildaSaysWhat · 15/01/2019 22:50

@bibbitybobbityyhat - I also agree with every word of your paragraph about Cameron.

I have never in my left felt such hatred of politicians and utter despair at what is going on in our country.

Judashascomeintosomemoney · 15/01/2019 22:52

It’s quite interesting to see how few have said Thatcher in favour of a visceral hatred of Corbyn, Cameron and Blair. Shows just how desperately bad politics has been in the Britain of recent years. I personally can always whip up a bit of (totally rational) hatred for Blair, the mendacious prick.

CowJumping · 15/01/2019 22:53

This.

And under Blair & Brown:

SureStart
Investment in the NHS
Investment in schools
Investment in universities.

Under Blair & Brown we recovered from the appalling and anti-working class depredations of Thatcher.

surferjet · 15/01/2019 22:53

You asked me why I think Tony Blair is to blame for all this and I told you.
You don’t accept my explanation which is fine.
But you haven’t got the foggiest idea yourself why DC gave us the referendum.

Hmm
Reallyevilmuffin · 15/01/2019 22:54

Jeremy Corbyn. Without a doubt. Dianne Abbott s self righteousness comes a close second.

Bloomini · 15/01/2019 22:55

Your thread title and your subsequent posts are contradictory. You seem to be saying that people cannot choose a politician unless you "perceive" them to be one who got us where we are today?

Reallyevilmuffin · 15/01/2019 22:56

I 100% agree with suferjet that without Blair there would never have been a referendum. The decision to not exercise transitional controls on movement when Poland and the other eastern European countries joined caused a huge huge rift in society. Without that massive shock UKIP would have never gained traction and EU would have been a sideshow never reaching the main stage.

Didsomeonesaybunny · 15/01/2019 22:57

Thatcher, Major, Clegg and I’m not exactly a fan of Corbyn.

Laughing at @tony2 - don’t hold back ha!

Didsomeonesaybunny · 15/01/2019 22:57

Ps - I loved Blair (please don’t shoot me!)

MsTSwift · 15/01/2019 22:58

Boris and Rees Mogg. I cannot watch them speak. Bloody Boris partly to blame for this shit situation, spoilt, over privileged lying adulterer. Don’t fall for the jovial act for a moment. My father detests Rees Mogg and is his constituent and active in the community so keeps coming across him. Dad tracks what he does in parliament and then writes to the local paper telling them what he is up to to dob him in.

MsTSwift · 15/01/2019 22:58

Dids I like Blair too

shortsaint · 15/01/2019 23:00

@sufferjet OP does make it clear re Cameron.

Cameron agreed a simplistic referendum to appease the right wing Eurosceptics in the Tory Party. Out of sheer arrogance thinking he would walk it.

He didn't & buggered off to write his memoirs in a posh shed whilst others sorted it out. All for personal political expediency.

Twat.
