Do you bath your kids every night?

I usually do, but some evenings I just wonder if its ok for them to go a day without.

Obviously if they have done PE or something sweat-inducing I'd bath/shower them.

Just feeling lazy this evening.

It's possible to use very mild body washes and emollients, I do for myself. I've had eczema at times but with care, my skin is fine and not dry.

It really doesn't take long to bathe a child and when they are older, they bath or shower (or both) themselves and then it doesn't matter how long they take.

Being clean feels good.

DavetheCat2001 · 16/01/2019 13:01

I'm finding showers during the week are far more convenient and quick, and baths at the weekend.

I have a 2 year old and twin 1 year olds. We usually bath them every other day

My two are bathed every night because they do get grubby throughout the day plus it’s their routine. They’ve both been freshly bathed and then clean pjs every night since they were tiny and it settles them before bed!

JKCR2017 · 16/01/2019 14:16

Also, they both have perfect skin so no issues with daily bathing here 🤷‍♀️

Changingagain · 16/01/2019 15:05

Where do people get the energy for bathing them every day, especially more than 1 of them?!
DS is 3 and has two a week unless he's particularly smelly for some reason. I imagine as he gets older it will increase and I'll definitely be encouraging daily showers once he's a teenager, but at the moment he just doesn't need it. I am jealous of the people who can get young ones in the shower though.

thenorthernluce · 16/01/2019 15:12

Stupid question, but how does one top and tail a toddler/child? I did it with my daughter when she was a baby, but she’s far too wriggly and impatient as an 18 month old!

We bath her every nursery day as she gets unbelievably filthy, otherwise don’t do it every night.

waterplease · 16/01/2019 15:40

I don't have a child but I would everyday (especially school/nursery age) as they just accumulate germs from school throughout the day.

Can imagine it's a faff though!

hazeyjane · 16/01/2019 16:09

I don't have a child but I would everyday......

....not if you had ds!!

cricketmum84 · 16/01/2019 16:39

Haha every parent who baths their kids twice a week started off as a @waterplease and with the best of intentions 😂

DavetheCat2001 · 16/01/2019 17:37

I'm bypassing the bath/shower for mine this evening..I just haven't got the energy!

They both had a shower last night and will have one again tomorrow.

That'll have to do!

DD (5) has eczema, so we bath her every few days. She had an extra dunk tonight, as she went swimming with school today. She’s not fond of showers

MyDcAreMarvel · 16/01/2019 17:41

No just once a week unless especially dirty .

cavycavy · 16/01/2019 17:45

Every other day in general but tbh I’ll do it at any time of the day. It’s a good time waster and calming. So I use it if she is bored or a bit hyper. She’ll stay in the bath for aaaages and I can zone out on my phone (I stay in the bathroom though as she’s only four).

Out of interest, when is it considered safe to leave a kid in the bath while you go to another room? My daughter can swim really well but I still feel too nervous to leave her alone in the bath!

waterplease · 16/01/2019 17:46

@cricketmum84 Grin honestly though, I have ocd so I would probably be bathing my child more than necessary anyways😂 my mum showered me every day and always encouraged daily showers throughout our teens.

I leave my DD in the bath for short periods of time and she is 5. I'm usually in the next room anyway and the bathroom door is open so could hear if she got into any trouble.

DS is 8 and is fine on his own in the bath.

Yes because they love it!

Camomila · 16/01/2019 18:12

Sometimes but usually DS has a quick bath or shower in the morning instead.

Sofacomfy · 16/01/2019 18:13

Every night. Either a quick shower or a splash in the bath.

reetgood · 16/01/2019 18:47

I used to do every day until baby developed what turned out to be eczema. Doctor advised cutting back the bathing. We did so, started using emollients and within a week his skin is so much better. We never used to put anything in the bath either, just water, but even that was apparently too much for his sensitive skin! He’s a year old.

Gobolinocat · 16/01/2019 18:57

No never bathed mine every night unless something had happened that day.
Strip skin of natural oils etc.

It's companies like Johnson and Johnson who pushed this.

csa26 · 16/01/2019 20:36

Mine’s 18 months and I bathe him when he looks grubby Smile or if he still pongs after a nappy change (if he does a huge poo in a disposable he’ll often still be smelly even after I’ve thoroughly cleaned his bum).

csa26 · 16/01/2019 20:37

That usually works out at once or twice a week.

Occasionally he’s ‘asked’ for a bath at bedtime too.

bluebellsparklypants · 16/01/2019 20:41

Each to their own but every night here, my DC still in nappies so really think it’s needed to keep clean & fresh, wash in mornings and bath at bedtime

anniehm · 16/01/2019 20:44

No not good for skin 2-3 times a week is fine for kids or adults in fact. Obviously if you are sweaty a shower is necessary but you need to make sure you don't use too much product on your skin if you are a daily bather.
