Urine smell on rug

My Ikea Rug (fairly thick pile) has been weed on by my puppy and potty training toddler. I put neutralising cleaner on it and have left it outside in heavy rain to get a freshen up but it still smells doggy and has a horrible urine smell.

It is for a playroom so ideally I don’t want to replace but i’m not sure how to get it smelling pleasant.

To be honest I would replace it. If it’s been out in heavy rain, and it’s not completely dried they can develop mould spores which I would avoid if children are going to be playing on it.

I had a urine stain that stank after one of dds friends had an accident at her party. I used a Rug Doctor spray that says especially for urine and stuff on the bottle. From Tesco I think.

I think a half water half white vinegar spray can neutralise odour? The smell of vinegar disappears once dry.

I'd say replace too. If it's been out in heavy rain it might not be completely dry yet and might just have that damp wool smell like washing a load of woolly jumpers which might go once it dries properly. If puppy has more accidents the advice I was given was to clean with only water as so many products smell like wee to animals so using them is actually encouraging your pup to wee more to re-mark it's territory. So blot as. Uch as you can then pour on water, repeat a few times.
