Northumberland - where to stay overnight for a good walk

Hi, I recently asked about York as a minibreak and am heading there in Feb. We fancy having an overnight in Northumberland on the way back to Scotland. I don't know the area at all and wondered if any mumsnetters could advise nice scenic areas to stay (rural) with access to a good walk - hills or lakeside or forestry, don't mind.

Northumberland is an absolutely lovely part of the country, and there is a huge choice of places to stay/visit depending on whether you'd prefer costal walks or the rural countryside. If you want a challenging walk, you could hike up Cheviot or Simonside, or, if hills aren't your thing, a walk around Keilder forest is great. I personally absolutely adore walking to Linhope Spout - it's incredibly rural, and you can make the walk as long or short as you like depending on what route you decided to take. I'd try to visit Alnwick Castle at one point too xx
