What would you do?

Ds 11 had a birthday party after school - we went to lazer tag and took 7 boys. One of the boys never gets invited to parties (except ds's) He is lovely but very quiet and not that popular. Ds has always liked him. The friend (Joe) comes from a very strict family and I know they don't have much money. Anyway he gave ds a gift card but when we went to check the amount as ds wanted to buy a book - it said £0.00 balance. DH said he would cover the book amount and to forget about card. However if I was the mum or dad and I had forked out money for a gift card I would be really annoyed if it was a dud and would want to know. What would you do? I don't know the parents as they keep themselves to themselves and ds has never been invited over

Cover the cost of the book and leave it at that

sausageees · 14/01/2019 17:37

I'd leave it

I wouldn’t do anything. It doesn’t look like you’re asking because you think they got shafted it looks like you’re asking because your daughter got shafted!

Say nothing.

I would leave it and cover the cost for the book. It might have been on purpose as they don't have much money but didn't want to send him empty handed which would make it mortifying if you pointed it out.

Say nothing - it might have been a re gift etc. You'll only embarrass the mother and son.

Thanks everyone - I'll get the book. I've also told ds to say nothing to anyone about it
