Tips for 'prettying up' a girl's bike please?

DD 8 is getting a maroon second hand bike for her b'day in a few weeks - her first bike. Good quality, buying it off friends. Thing is DD has super girly tastes in some things and fancies a more babyish look, think pink and white, donut stickers, basket with fake flowers etc. What's the best place to get those things? Will also do a massive pink bow - or could I wrap it somehow? Any ideas very welcome. I don't know a lot about bikes ...

We girlified DS1's black and orange bike for DD by adding handlebar streamers, a fluffy seat cover and basket on the front. Any bike shop will help.

Ah yes, streamers and seat cover, great ideas. Thank you! Anyone tried stickers? May look a bit crap?

Spray it pink or lilac

IShitGlitter · 14/01/2019 13:41

yep spray paint and stickers.

If she needs pink, get her a pink helmet and reflective jacket. Also pink lights.

Just plaster it in pink stickers, would look great with a maroon background I think. If you want to go nuts, look for pink and silver self adhesive reflective tape on eBay, and cut long swirly shapes out of it to stick along the frame.

Spoke reflectors are also cool.

Spraying needs to be a professional job, you'd have to strip the bike right down or you could damage brakes etc.

Thank you all! I love Mumsnet. Flowers

Unicorn stickers always look good.

I'm glad that people have helped you out OP as you clearly appreciate the help but I'm just really sad that little girls need all this pink sparkly crap these days.

kissprudencekeith · 14/01/2019 15:53

I think Flying Tiger might have some things that fit the bill.

Elfinablender · 14/01/2019 15:55

Streamers off the handle bars. Glow in the dark spoggles on the spokes. Happy days.

IShitGlitter · 14/01/2019 16:52

ive spray painted a bike with no problems before cover the wheels and chain sections remove the seat and peel any stickers and go nuts. EBAY do bike stickers which are great.

HelloViroids · 14/01/2019 16:55

Definitely a big white basket with plastic flowers in (picturing Phoebe’s bike in Friends!)

I hear you GeorgeTheHippo and let me assure you we are very much a feminist, 'offer children 1000 ways to be not just 2' type of family.
