Paternity leave for DH

Just wondering if anyone knows- if I'm in labour for a few days for example, does dhs paternity leave kick in whilst I'm in labour or would he take holidays from work until baby is actually born?

I guess that would be something he would have to agree with his manager.

When he completes his paternity leave day he can choose if he wants to start his leave on a set date or when baby is born.

With all of our children DH took pat leave from when I went into labour. Each labour was 23 hours or less so born same day. In our most recent case he went to work as a normal day and at midday I called him to say I was being induced within the hour and to come and get me. He left and his work kindly paid him full pay for the whole day. Pat leave commenced the next working day.

He could discuss in advance but there's a lot of variables. Probably the easiest thing to do is to opt to take pat leave when baby is born and then when you go into labour he says to employer he'll take it unpaid and they can then accept or offer full pay as some places do depending on circumstances.

Paternity leave starts as soon as your partner doesn’t go to work. I was induced for 5 days so half of my husband’s paternity leave was spent playing scrabble in hospital with me.
