Pain after root canal

I had a root canal 3 days ago and I'm in a fair amount of pain now. It was a back molar. I had no pain at all during the appointment but once the anaesthetic had worn off it hurt. It is a dull aching pain but doesn't get much worse when I bite down on it. I'm taking paracetamol every four hours. I have an appointment booked in ten days time for a crown fitting so will have it checked then or before if the pain gets worse.
Please can someone tell me if this is normal and how long it took to go away again?

I had a root filling removed on Wednesday and the dentist spent about 10 minutes explaining how to manage pain afterwards so I guess it's not uncommon. Mine ached most of Wednesday evening but has been ok since. Not sure how it'll be when I go back to get it refilled.
Are you taking ibuprofen aswell?

Thanks. He said it may be slightly sore but because he'd already cleaned it out and put a dressing in on a previous appointment he said it shouldn't be too bad. I think he took three nerves out and said it was a deep one etc.
I can't take ibuprofen at the moment because I'm pregnant. I wish I could!

Thanks for asking Clutter! It's still painful but seems to be getting better so that's promising. I'm no longer clock watching before taking paracetamol.
I rang the dentist and he's checking it on Thursday but said it was deep and will be sore due to the trauma suffered and to give it a week- 10 days.

Oh poor you Sad but glad you think it's improving.

I had the same thing years ago. Turned out to be a third hidden root. Easily removed and pain vanished. Hope you have an equally successful result! Tooth pain is a bastard.
