Freelance help

Posted in freelance but had no reply... so posting here,
I'm a single parent of a 3yo, and am looking to start up as a mobile/freelance hairdresser.
I currently work part time in a salon, but ideally would like to be fully self employed by August/September.
I currently get wtc and ctc and some hb, will they move me on to universal credit? And how do I tell them my income as it obviously won't be the same each week?
I have sorted out public liability insurance, and I know I will need to register with HMRC, but is there anything else I need to do, to start as a sole trader?
Will I need a separate business bank account?
Is there any apps to make banking/tax easier?
Does anyone have any advice/tips for me?
