Celebelly · 12/01/2019 22:15

It's meem. But it's sometimes a meme in itself to call it a maymay.

onlymyselftoanswerto1 · 12/01/2019 22:18

I called it a me-me until my 16yo ds told me otherwise. I now know it's meem but still call it a me-me in my head Grin

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 12/01/2019 22:18

I say meem and so do my DDs.

Ellen DeGeneres says “me-me” but I think she is joking.

Hoppinggreen · 12/01/2019 22:19

DH called it a meh meh to DD’s amusement!
I’m told it’s a “meem”

spugzbunny · 12/01/2019 22:25

It's meme to rhyme with gene. The etymology is that it is a piece of culture that is passed on between individuals, copied and reproduced in the same way that a gene is. Richard Dawkins came up with it.

grinchypants · 12/01/2019 22:25

Oh god I've been calling it a meh-may for ages
I'm obviously not as down with the kids as I think

DramaAlpaca · 12/01/2019 22:27

Meem

Shadow1234 · 13/01/2019 05:51

I've always said mem.

SaskiaRembrandtWasFramed · 13/01/2019 06:59

I say meem, 'cause that's how it's pronounced.

Short article about it's origins:

sashh · 13/01/2019 07:10

It's derived from the word 'gene' so the sound of the vowels is the same. Genes pass on genetic information, memes pass on cultural information.
