iTunes family sharing

Please help me before I throw my bloody phone away. I'm trying to add the DC to family sharing. They are both under 13 so I clicked add a child. But it says I need to create an Apple ID but they already have one. I don't want to add them as an adult because I don't want to be able to accidentally buy something whilst using an app.

Technically a you can’t create an Apple ID for a child under 13 unless it was a child’s account as part of a family sharing group -that’s why it’s asking you to do that now. You say they have existing Apple ID’s already - they must have been set up with an edited birthdate to make them over 13. You can use those original ones by sending a family sharing invite from the iCloud settings on your device - but you can’t edit the date to say they are under 13.

Even if you continue with the original ones you can still enable ‘Ask to Buy’ which will stop them being able to download stuff without your approval

Yes I used my dob when setting theirs up. I can't find the Ask to buy option anywhere when setting them up as an adult.

Don’t think you can enable Ask to Buy for over 18s alright. Usually people just round the ages up to age 14 when they are creating the ID

You can add restrictions separately to those Apple IDs - not as part of Family Sharing but it would do the same job
