Premier Inn - Do I need I.D?

Was about to book a premier inn for a couple of nights but noticed in the terms that they say you need photo I.D. Does anybody know if this is only the case if you are paying cash? I have no passport and don't drive, so no license! I have tried to ring the hotel a number of times today but nobody has picked up. Help?!

I have never been asked for it and have stayed in a few.

I have never given ID. I have never paid cash either. Always book online, usually pay upfront, occasionally pay on arrival by card.

Thanks both. What a relief!

I stay in Premier Inns all the time. The only time I have ever been asked for ID is when I have not prepaid online. They wouldn't let me check in without it. This also coincided with me arriving after 9pm and these two things combined (paying on arrival and arriving late) are apparently a 'red flag' for some sort of fraud or criminal activity. The hotel staff wouldn't tell me what.

if you're paying cash on arrival you need to be prepared to show ID.
