Walking app (with maps)

Can anyone recommend one? I can find plenty of apps that track where you walk but I won't one where I can download walks to do and then follow a gps on my phone.

Any suggestions are very welcome!

I'd love to know this too, would be really useful!

If you buy a hard copy of an ordnance survey map for the area that you want to walk in then you get a downloaded version of that map also. It’s not a guided walk so to speak but a map with gps.

Thanks SBDD, the problem I have is always being on a tight timescale so I don't want to waste time being unsure of where to go. The last walk I went on trying to follow map/written directions we wasted a lot of time walking up and down the same path trying to find the right 'bit'

We used to geocache a lot so what I am imagining is something like the geocaching app where you navigate from one waypoint to another using the gps on your phone.

SBDB actually reading back what you said, if I downloaded the map to my phone, it would tell me where on the map I was. That does sound useful, if not the whole of what i am looking for

Ooh I found a website with an app that did that, this summer. Will try to find it!

SBDB · 12/01/2019 20:35

Hmmm I haven’t come across anything like that I’m afraid! Do you know any software developers? I think there’s a gap in the market! Grin

I think it was ifootpath, have you tried that?

Nameynamechangeforthis · 12/01/2019 20:37

I can't believe no one has made it!

fourthusernamebutwhoscounting thankyou, I will look at ifootpath

ok, ifootpath looks good, but there are only 11 walks for the county, half of which and only 5 of them are over 5 miles. So, every bit helps but I could do with something a bit more extensive really!

This is billed as the no 1 walking app, so it might be as a good as it gets though

We've been walking for years on the fells. Try memory maps.

Buy an OS map and plan your own? Confused
