If your child is ill...

How often, if at all, do you check on them in the night. My 4 year old has a temperature of 39 that comes down with medicine, he’s obviously under the weather, wanting to lie around a lot etc but is ok. The NHS site says ‘regularly check on them in the night.’ What does this mean? Setting an alarm every hour!!

At that age I would have had them in the bed with me.

Hope he feels better soon.

I cosleep with DS (2) anyway - but when he’s poorly, i let him sleep on the sofa in the early evening, and then go up to bed with him. I find that if his temp is shooting up, I automatically wake very quickly.

I’ve never ever slept in a bed with him - he wouldn’t stand for that, loves his bed! He’s not really that ill in himself just has a cold and temperature. If he felt really ill surely he’d wake me up?

@Lampshadylady

You know your kid and his medical history, just do whatever you feels best, as you don’t think cosleeping is an option.

DS is 4 and when ill with a fever, we would just check on him a couple of hours after putting him down so normally just as we were going to bed, then I would check again in the night and if needed DH would a couple of hours after. I would makesure to tell DH if i had given anymore medicine in the night. DS knows to give us a shout if he needed us for anything.

Lampshadylady · 12/01/2019 17:34

Thanks @imstillhungry I was thinking of checking when we went to bed and then once more in the night.

I check when I go to bed and leave them to it. They yell if they want me and need sleep if they're sick.

ImStillHungry · 13/01/2019 07:38

@Lampshadylady i hope he slept well and is feeling better today.

waywardfruit · 13/01/2019 07:42

We had a spare mattress under the bed in dc's room and if they were ill then we would pull that out and one of us would sleep on it. Usually dh actually, as he was good at dealing with sick and I'm not!

Slept ok thanks, woke once with a high temp again but we have Nurofen and went straight back to sleep.

Still ill today but ok if you see what I mean!
