Had a endoscopy on Thursday due to pain in my upper bowel was told there looked to be nothing to worry about but I have to wait about three weeks for a specialist too look at them, I'm confused and conceded that if there's nothing to worry about why am I in pain

Did they take biopsies? They’ll need to be examined too.

frankiethepanda · 12/01/2019 10:46

Yes they did, but aren't they for cancer checks? I'm 100% sure I don't have cancer as this pain has being going on for some time

Not just cancer no, they check for inflammation too which would be found in Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. They wouldn’t give you a diagnosis there and then anyway, you always have to wait for a follow up appointment. Best wishes.

Thank you Flowers
Yes but if it was Crohn's then surely any inflammation would show on the camera test? I understand that the people who do the test can't tell you outright if it was such a condition but I don't think they'd say there's nothing to worry about

I had an endoscopy to check for coeliac disease and was told there and then that it looked like coeliac disease. They took biopsies also which confirmed the diagnosis a couple of weeks later.

My Crohn's didn't show up on an endoscopy, an mri or ct scans so no it doesn't always show up. It depends where the inflammation is. I was finally diagnosed with a pill camera. It's unlikely to be crohns tho if pain is your only symptom

Thank you for the replies and well wishes, I guess I'm just being a inpatient little bean, but when you have undiagnosed bowel pain you can't take pain killers as they can cause all kinda issues down there so I'm just kinda in pain 24/7 and it's taken so long already to get here I'm just kinda fed up to still have no idea of a answer

It is frustrating and it’s a double edged sword because whilst you don’t want a serious diagnosis, you do still want an answer!

frankiethepanda · 12/01/2019 16:57

I know! I feel insane for being disappointed they didn't see anything straight away but I had just hoped if they did they could offer me advice
