As you get older...

Do you find you’re socialising less? I’m 42 with one child and over the last few years I’ve found friends have dropped away, moved away, my job has got less sociable etc which has left me only going properly out out once or twice a month. I still socialise with friends (with my husband) at the weekend and stuff but usually children are involved. I guess I’m feeling a bit wistful for my days of sinking cocktails in cool bars.....

Of course! Less time, money, energy and less reason to go out....yes you can sometimes long for those carefree nights out but as they are now
followed by a 6am toddler start, most times I’ll pass

I don’t have less money or inclination though - just less opportunity!

And luckily I can have a lie in as my husband would get up if I’d been out

Ohh well then those you used to go out with have less money, time and inclination

I stopped working due to ill health at 48 but until then I went out regularily. I worked in a very sociable environment. Many of my colleagues were from overseas or from other parts of the country as am I so you had to make new friendships. I think that drove the social whirl that was my department.

I work in an extremely sociable industry but it’s also fairly young. Colleagues who are my age are fewer, much more senior and just don’t go out as much!
