Feel like Amazon prime isn’t worth it.

Purely because all the free films are usually old and shit, so often find myself paying for films (£3:50) rental! On tope of £79 yearly! But even the films they charge for are often old and sometime shit!

Plus, I often listen to amazon music but to get any decent stuff I’d have to pay an additional £7 monthly Confused

The films on there are a pretty good selection. Off the top of my head:

All the Presidents Men
Philadelphia
Mommy Dearest
Carol
I Tonya

Mrs Maisel has won lots of awards and that's my next series. I thought the Julia Roberts show, Homecoming, was OK but needed to have longer episodes.

Is it just new films you're after? If so I can see why most of them aren't included, it's not in Amazon's interest for them to be and I think you're being naive expecting them to be included, quite frankly.

Cheeseart · 12/01/2019 09:02

Does anyone use the Music? Is it any good? We use prime loads but I don't know whether I'd be mad to cancel my Spotify?
Depends the kind of music you listen to, they only have a limited amount I think it's 2 million song catalog for the free prime version and to get the rest you have to pay more on top of prime, best way to find out if you could cope on the free version is to just give it a whirl!

Never watch films but there are loads of fantastic series on there - Billions and Sneaky Pete are both brilliant and haven’t been mentioned yet. I mainly use it for delivery though.

I cancelled hours when next day delivery ceased to actually occur. I don’t need any of the TV stuff, because I’ve got Netflix and that’s more than sufficient to fill my time. I occasionally sign up to kindle unlimited but then I binge read for a month and cancel it again.

Several people share mine so the free delivery alone makes it worth it. But it does mean I have committed the ultimate Mumsnet insanity of letting other people I trust have my passwords!

I thought I'd missed that Billions wasn't included as I keep meaning to watch it so I just checked and it isn't.

I think it’s okay. Prime doesn’t necessarily mean next day any more which is annoying and sneaky of them. I don’t watch films or tv so that’s of no interest to me, we have Spotify for music and Netflix and Apple TV for dp and the dc to watch stuff (as well as an actual tv with 3 billion channels).
I quite often find with prime that there are other non prime options available cheaper yet the prime price is exactly the same just with the price hiked up. So essentially paying more to get something quicker - paying for delivery! Annoying but mine self renewed without me knowing about it in November. Wouldn’t have bothered to renew it if I had known as both dp and I pay for prime for some stupid reason.

JustKeepSwimmingJustKeepSwimmi · 12/01/2019 09:28

Ive noticed y ou can often get it cheaper without prime so you are paying twice for it.

Someone asked what you expect for free... but it isnt free its a similar price to basic netflix isnt it.

If i cancel prime do I then lose the films we've paid for (to keep) through amazon?

whiteroseredrose · 12/01/2019 09:29

I still have it because the delivery alone is worth it. I also have loads of old family photos stored there. Anything else is the cherry on top.

I wouldn't get it for films and TV alone but I do like the fact that you CAN pay for slightly obscure stuff that wouldn't be on Netflix.

Cheeseart · 12/01/2019 09:34

No if you've bought them, they're yours and you will still be able to watch them after cancelling.

Lessstressedhemum · 12/01/2019 09:36

Mine is worth it just for Outlander. Everything else is a bonus.

Iggity · 12/01/2019 09:42

I have had several one month free trials. Just coming to the end of one I had over Christmas which was purely for cheap present delivery. The film choice is awful. I pay a few pounds each month for music access for Alexa. No way would I pay the full fee.

TeaByTheSeaside · 12/01/2019 10:02

I love old and shit movies so I watch it all the time.

Plus Outlander is on Prime. It's my favourite programme ever and worth the price just for that!

Madcats · 12/01/2019 10:46

It probably depends on how you use it.

We now have a couple of Echo Shows (wait for the sales/Black Friday) as well as some Echo dots. I am getting through A LOT of box sets whilst batch-cooking, and there are plenty of films we didn't get round to seeing (cinema-viewing limited to Disney/Pixar kids stuff until very recently). We download things for holidays too.

DD(11) loves playing around with Amazon Music (developing her music taste/trying new genres). She is also sporty, so I find it very useful to have cheap books/free magazines on my Kindle whilst stuck at a fixture/poolside. I CAN get similar from the library, but their viewer is a bit temperamental. It forces me to try new authors too.

Prime delivery seems reliable where we are - We probably get at least 100 parcels/year between us (DH's local office is small and it is usually less hassle to get stuff delivered to us). It's an absolute godsend for last minute tween birthday presents.

Conseulabananahammock · 12/01/2019 10:50

Amazon wardrobe
Ebooks
Free delivery
Films and box sets
All for 7.99 a month. It's really not bad considering.

theluckiest · 12/01/2019 11:35

I agree with previous posters that the Marvellous Mrs Maisel is worth the subscription alone!!

Charley50 · 12/01/2019 11:38

Any students in your house, or work in education? You can get it half price then.

Whisky2014 · 12/01/2019 11:40

I thought series 2 of marvellous mrs maisel was really disappointing. I loved the 1st series.

JustKeepSwimmingJustKeepSwimmi · 12/01/2019 12:20

We havw a student in the house but ita not me and the account is in my name. Would i need to close my accoujnt and him start a new one.

Its reassuring we dont lose associated account films. I tjought id have to have an account to have the app to see them...

IJustLostTheGame · 12/01/2019 12:25

I gave up on it Amazon cancelled the only two series I liked; Flesh and Bone and the World according to Z.
I'm Netflix all the way.

icebearforpresident · 12/01/2019 12:59

There’s a few good films on there but i finding better for stuff for the kids to watch. it’s good for tv shows, got a few on the go just now (the Americans & Parks and Rec).

I just realised I get music with it the other day so got rid of my Apple Music subscription. I only used it for the gym (and I haven’t been in months) so couldn’t justify the tenner a month on it. I had a playlist of gym music of 170 songs and there was only about 30 which I couldn’t get on amazon music as well.

MyOtherProfile · 12/01/2019 13:13

Really? Even a teacher?

Dimsumlosesum · 12/01/2019 13:14

I love it. I've relied on it heavily since having kids.

southeastdweller · 12/01/2019 13:15

Half price after six months. Before then it’s free. You just have to give them your uni or college email address.
