What is the standard unit of measurement between “football pitch” and “Wales”

You know the REAL standard units of measurement.....

Human hair
Double decker bus
Football pitch....

Well the biggest standard unit of measurement is “the size of Wales”... but what comes between “the size of a football pitch” and “the size of Wales”...

Suffolk

FreezerBird · 11/01/2019 18:53

Isle of Wight?

AhoyAhoy · 11/01/2019 18:53

I don’t think there is one. It’s like moving from centimetres to metres.

Surely it's "this" or "from that wall all the way down to here" whilst the speaker makes box shapes with their hands?

My partner's ego? Hmm

words have been said

Catonaroof · 11/01/2019 18:56

Birmingham

VittysCardigan · 11/01/2019 18:58

Don't you just work in football pitches until you get to Wales?

the99 · 11/01/2019 18:59

From the village centre to the main road.

MissMatty2hats · 11/01/2019 19:01

Hang on, you skipped out African elephants, blue whales and double decker buses!

MissMatty2hats · 11/01/2019 19:04

Oops sorry you did say double decker buses. I got a bit excited as this is a common subject of argument in our house!

Lweji · 11/01/2019 19:05

Are you a New Scientist journalist? Wink

I thought the largest was France.

olderthanyouthink · 11/01/2019 19:20

I've heard things be compared to France

Just found this which is quite fun (in a nerd way)

CMOTDibbler · 11/01/2019 19:25

I think theres 'the size of London', the 'Isle of Wight', and then you are into Wales

llangennith · 11/01/2019 19:30

Nobody says 'the size of London'. 'The size of Wales' is convenient as it's a specific bulge on the side of the UK.

defectiveinspector · 11/01/2019 19:35

Vittys is absolutely correct, double.decker buses, a number of football pitches and then Wales

BarbaraofSevillle · 11/01/2019 19:37

The area bound by the M25?

Or, according to More or Less, there are units representing fractions of Wales.

BarbaraGordon · 11/01/2019 19:38

If you need to illustrate height, I believe Big Bens is the measurement.

BathshebaKnickerStickers · 11/01/2019 19:40

There is also “Olympic Swimming Pool” but that’s only a few double decker buses small than a football pitch.

Interestingly “a football pitch” is a unit of area, whereas “Wembley” is a unit of capacity

marvellousnightforamooncup · 11/01/2019 20:12

Isn't Belgium also a unit, or aren't we allowed that because of Brexit?

MagicKeysToAsda · 11/01/2019 20:14

Where does "small African country" come in the scale? As in, after Christmas eating, my arse is the size of...

EggysMom · 11/01/2019 20:16

I've heard "Isle of Wight" used before now.

it has to be something that won't change but that we can picture. I don't think Wight is shrinking ...

JamAtkins · 11/01/2019 20:16

Yorkshire?

elephantoverthehill · 11/01/2019 20:18

Surely you just multiply the football pitches until you get to the size of Wales.

DimProblem · 11/01/2019 20:19

I live in Wales and never realised we were a unit of measurement!

UrsulaPandress · 11/01/2019 20:22

Of course you are.

The Kruger Park. The size of Wales.

Though as I prefer it. Wales, the size of the Kruger Park.
