Should it snow, and we all moan about how well Europe manages...

we might read this!

It always winds me up when after what is quite a lot of snow for the UK, say 6-8" of wet, wind driven snow in Hampshire, everyone leaps in to whine about how 'it shuts the country down, they'd never allow that to happen in Europe!'

I 'get' that Europe has had a lot of snow but a) they have snow ploughs, b) they carry snow chains, c) it's dry snow which is considerably easier to shift (I know, I used to have to clear the car park and the pavement outside the hotel I worked in in southern Germany 30-odd years ago!).

I hope they can get back to normal as soon as possible.

Aside from the danger, it does look pretty, though!

I'm in Maine, where we are used to snow, and earlier this week school was closed for 3" of snow.

Really?! I know 3" would close Hampshire schools, but that does surprise me!

Norway practically shuts down for a couple of days when the snow first starts

Perhaps I’m missing your point OP but the article mentions a child being killed, people having to be rescued and an avalanche crashing into a hotel.

That’s serious snow and serious incidents. I’m not really sure it’s the right example to use to show that the Europeans are “actually not that great with snow after all” Confused
