Overwhelmed

My ds is 7. Over the past 2 years has displayed various anxious behaviours. Balance and coordinating issues

Today I went to my first asd support group meeting. Time to stop burrying my head in the sand and really help my ds

I feel really overwhelmed. Anxious for the future. Guilty for not seeking help sooner

No you aren't. You are seeking help for your DS. Hugs to you. Do you want to talk about it?

You are not a shit parent. You have started getting support. Flowers

You feel overwhelmed because if you have been in denial then attending the group means it's all now real and you can't ignore it.

Look at it like the first step?

All of us at whatever stage we came to the understanding that our child wasn't NT (neurotypical) feel bad for what we may have inadvertently done in the belief that they should behave/conform/ just be able to cope with. Or just for the fact we didn't realise earlier. It does not make you a bad parent. The important thing to focus on now is that you have decided to make a change and learn about what's going on and find help for your child and you. It is overwhelming and there is so much out there it can be very daunting, just take it a day at a time but be proud of the fact that you are doing something now. "What if" never never helps and sucks the energy you have to deal with the here and now. I hope the group was helpful and you get some support from it for both of you Thanks
