Nails. Is gel a better option than acrylic?

I use a computer at work, so my nails get a really good bashing (well, what nails I have....).
They look quite unsightly so I would like some overlays on.
I’ve had acrylic nails before, but found them to be a bit too hard when using the keyboard at work (admin) iyswim, but I have heard that gel is used now.
Are gel nails better than acrylic? Are they as hard as acrylic, or stronger?

I find gel nails so much better than acrylic! I get gel nails every 3 weeks or so and they seem to last longer, are more durable and not as damaging to your actual nails! They also look way more natural which I like.

Basically anything is better than acrylic!!!! They trash your nails

Get a decent Shellac manicure and you're on to a winner

Totally agree with everything here

I tried shellac and my nails just kept breaking off even whilst I had the shellac on. It just did not suit my nails at all.

I have acrylic now but they are only as long as my natural nail underneath so it's just an overlay rather than an extension.
