IKEA best buys - hit me with yours!

cocomomo · 11/01/2019 13:44

I'm about to do an order from IKEA as I don't have a car. I have to pay for delivery, so plan to get as much as possible in one go.

I love organising (Marie Kondo style), and am looking for your best IKEA buys to help me organise my house (including nursery). What bits and pieces from IKEA have you found useful?

Other non-organising-related but useful buys also welcome!

Thanks!

Their freezer bags are absolutely brilliant

The red ones that are v small are brilliant for taking snacks, lunchboxes etc and the green ones which are massive are brilliant for changes of clothes in nappy bags etc

And freezing things obviously!

We love them!

ps1991 · 11/01/2019 13:52

We have bought the Hemnes dresser and day bed recently:

www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/storage-furniture/chest-of-drawers/hemnes-chest-of-8-drawers-white-art-40374281/

The dresser is in our nursery as a changing table with lots of little white storage boxes that Ikea do. The bed is in the spare room folds out to king size and the drawers underneath have so much storage space in them! we plan for it to become babies bed once they are old enough, then it will match the dresser!

One of the best Ikea bits we have is the Kallax unit:

www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/storage-furniture/shelving-units-systems/kallax-shelving-unit-oak-effect-art-70307493/

The top of this is my dressing table then we have four boxes that we use as wash baskets, one for whites, one for darks/colours, one for underwear and socks and the other one stores hairdryers/ straighteners etc.

Another fab thing to get is there lack side tables. They’re super cheap and easy to pop together and take down, we have some in the loft for emergency side tables like at Christmas etc.

Their towels are fab too and bathmats, I’ve had mine 7 years, they’re washed on a 60 at least once a week and still look good with no fading (they’re red).

We also have a pax wardrobe set up that we got when we bought our house. The drawers and accessories you can get for within those are really good too and help you make the most from the space!

As you can probably tell we love Ikea!!

The Billy bookcase, love ours and I’m planning to buy another.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 11/01/2019 14:15

Kallax and PAX obviously and their "inserts".
And this chocolaty flat cake.

HowlsMovingBungalow · 11/01/2019 14:22

Freezer bags!

Love their linens too - bedding and teatowels.

Their support pillow is a cheap buy too.

Chopping boards

Medicaltextbook · 11/01/2019 14:29

I have a really small bathroom and they have a karken bath mat that is perfect for a small space.

GroggyLegs · 11/01/2019 14:30

Freezer bags - obvs.
I have two of their white recycling boxes with the flap-type lids here
So much nicer than looking at a pile of cans.

Not kondo at all but:
Chalks & train tracks for the kids.
Kids metal cutlery.
Kids plastic plates.
Changing mat covers - loved those.

AndWhat · 11/01/2019 14:34

Chocolate Orange daim bars
And obvs freezer bags Grin

Scotinoz · 11/01/2019 14:36

Hemnes furniture really seems to last. We've got a chest of drawers which must be 10 years old; it's moved numerous time, been used as a changing table and all sorts, but looks as good as new.

My only other essential is a bag of mini Daime bars 😀

cocomomo · 11/01/2019 14:37

Thank you everyone! Wow I definitely need to get in on the freezer bag action.

@ps1991 we also use the Hemnes chest as a changing table and baby clothes storage, AND Hemnes day bed for future baby bed! We're about to get a baby bed rail too. We also have the Hemnes bookshelf, so big Hemnes fans here Blush

We are like the house that IKEA built here Grin

squishee · 11/01/2019 14:39

Yy to the freezer bags and bobbly bath mat.
And the Värdevoll garlic press is absolutely brilliant.

WellTidy · 11/01/2019 14:40

this stainless steel oven tray is so useful. We have two, they’re used daily. Perfect size.

50ShadesOfWTF · 11/01/2019 14:40

The plasters. I've never had plasters so stick and they are far more resistant to water that most waterproof plasters

reallybadidea · 11/01/2019 14:41

I got a spoon rest from there last year. I think it is one of the most used and useful objects in our house.

ComingtoKent · 11/01/2019 14:42

I can vouch for their stainless steel roasting pans (with hinged handles). I’ve got them in three sizes and have had them for years, they’re fab.

I always buy tea lights, candles and serviettes in large numbers too.

Happy shopping!c

FatandSassy · 11/01/2019 14:43

Oops pressed "post" too soon Blush

We have just this week bought a Leirvik bed for our room. It's bloody lovely and currently in the winter sale so only £70-something. Our room has the MALM 6 set of drawers x2 and the little 2 sets x2 as bedside tables. Wardrobes are the Aneboda (I think) in beech or oak.

They have some lovely lamps, they are always worth a buy. I second Kallax and Billy for EVERYTHING storage wise. The boxes are brilliant, we have some in the kitchen along the tops of the cupboards. I can't remember the shoe cabinets we've got but they're from Ikea too.

Our kids rooms are decorated entirely in IKEA stuff, the bunk beds and storage are from there, MALM drawers again, Kallax, the Micke desk and workstation are brilliant for my bigger boys. One has the smaller desk setup and the older one has a bigger room so got the really big desk with double drawers. Lack are brilliant too, long lasting and cheap!

megletthesecond · 11/01/2019 14:44

Same here sassy Grin.
We went last weekend and I only spent 30 quid because we have everything we need. Obviously I still needed a skinny bookcase, baking storage tubs and a rug for the back door Blush.

AprilSpring · 11/01/2019 14:46

Freezer bags obvs!
Clip things for closing open packets of food.www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/cookware/food-storage-organising/bevara-sealing-clip-set-of-30-mixed-colours-mixed-sizes-art-10339171/
Plain black rucksack that I use as a nappy / baby bag. www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/ikea-family-products/travel/förenkla-backpack-black-art-70313564/
Wrapping paper - I think it’s lovely quality and great design so for the price!

AprilSpring · 11/01/2019 14:48

Oh and the kids bowls and cutlery in rainbow colours!

BriocheBriocheBrioche · 11/01/2019 14:49

The picture shelves (ribba I think) are really good for books in kids rooms.

We’ve got loads of them dotted round the house.

Di11y · 11/01/2019 14:50

Marie kondo you need the sectional inserts for drawers.

ps1991 · 11/01/2019 14:51

We also used to have a tall set of Malm drawers, that started life as my aunties about 15 years ago, they came with me to uni and then when I bought my own home, went all around everywhere and we’re still sturdy when we sold them on. A malm wardrobe was also great that we had although we didn’t keep it for as long as the drawers!

The bargain corner is my fave spot I’ve had loads of bits (that I’ve actually gone for) from there!

cocomomo · 11/01/2019 15:02

OBVIOUSLY the clippy things, @AprilSpring they are so useful.

I want to do a shout out to their plants and snacks (dried fruit blobs in particular). But unfortunately they don't deliver either.

A question for those with the Hemnes day bed (perhaps @ps1991?) - if you have two mattresses but are currently using it as a single bed, what fitted sheet do you use? A normal single? Does Ikea cater to this?
