I'm about to do an order from IKEA as I don't have a car. I have to pay for delivery, so plan to get as much as possible in one go.

I love organising (Marie Kondo style), and am looking for your best IKEA buys to help me organise my house (including nursery). What bits and pieces from IKEA have you found useful?

Other non-organising-related but useful buys also welcome!

Thanks!

Ikea wouldn't let me add smaller things (including freezer bags) to my furniture delivery order yesterday, said they were only available
in-store.

AlanThePig · 11/01/2019 15:09

The saucepans are a thing of wonder. Best, hardest wearing pans I have ever owned.
I have a drawer full of the new defunct MEDALJ pans which look as good as the day I bought them. Recently added a few OUMBÄRLIG to them and they are just as good.

SinkGirl · 11/01/2019 15:09

I wish they’d let you get their coffee beans online - they’re so bloody good.

We got a lovely grey kallax recently that’s so good for toy storage. Under bed storage boxes are great too.

The Oxberg doors for Billy double the cost but make the bookcases look massively smarter, imo. And (like everyone else) Kallax is brilliant, particularly for toys.

abcdema · 11/01/2019 15:10

Following... need to do an IKEA run soon.
I always get a load of Tupperware there

tablelegs · 11/01/2019 15:14

Kallax units

These blinds are brilliant if you're just needing something up in the kids rooms. They also come in grey and are blackout blinds.

Limpshade · 11/01/2019 15:19

We use the single fitted sheets for our day bed, yes. The mattresses are very slim and put together only make up the thickness of one mattress, if that makes sense.

We have one in one of our kids' rooms already and I'm currently trying to convince DH we need one in the other. I'm very jealous of your IKEA order Grin

Delivery is only £3.99 for small things. Everyone should go wild!

I used to be able to persuade my husband to accompany me on the two bus journeys to the local Ikea a couple of times a year, but it's less appealing now with a baby Sad

ALERT: freezer bags denied for online orders SadSad

Shopping online is very tempting.
No lie - the last three times we've been to Ikea we've bought home freezer bags, tealights and three vomiting bugs.

ps1991 · 11/01/2019 17:20

@cocomomo we just have two single sheets on the mattresses, they stack ontop of each other and then if we pull it out they just lay next to each other. We’ve only slept on it once pulled out (usually it’s used as a single) but it was fine having separate sheets. If I was keeping it pulled out I think I would get a king size sheet to put over both mattresses.

These shoe cabinets have been game changers in our small terrace house (I dream of a hallway):

www.ikea.com/gb/en/products/small-storage-organisers/shoe-cabinets/trones-shoe-cabinet-storage-white-art-00397307/

We now have 6 mounted on the wall. Don't let the plastic put you off - they look pretty stylish once they're up and have a candle/picture/plant on top.

Also 100% agree about the freezer bag clips, and I love their picture rails - really neat way of displaying pictures and easily rotating them.

Furrycushion · 11/01/2019 17:30

Do they still do wrapping paper? I haven't been able to find it the last few times I've been

blueskydays · 11/01/2019 17:32

P.S. My DP will only come to Ikea with me when he's forgotten the trauma of the previous time... so about once a year. It's similar to every time I suggest painting a room Grin

TattiePants · 11/01/2019 17:54

Yes to the Kallax units & also Lack shelved, both are ideal for kids bedrooms / playrooms. We also have a few of these for bathroom stuff & the smaller lidded ones are good inside kitchen drawers to keep chargers etc together.

All of the weaning things, high chairs, long sleeved bibs, cultery (plastic and metal) and plastic crockery.

The drona box that goes inside the kallax unit is DD favourite toy.

SpeckledyHen · 11/01/2019 17:58

White flannels . £1.60 for 4 - great for makeup removal . Soft and wash well .

llangennith · 11/01/2019 18:07

Trofast storage units and boxes. Invaluable for toys too.

Notquiteagandt · 11/01/2019 18:46

Glass tupperwear,
Glass jars,
Frozen meatballs 😍

FatandSassy · 11/01/2019 18:47

@Furrycushion yes they do. It's usually in with the plants in the Manchester store Hmm

KungFuFriday · 11/01/2019 18:52

Too tip for the freezer bags : you can still use your iPhone/tablet if you put them inside, so they're very handy for the beach etc.

Furrycushion · 11/01/2019 18:54

Fatandsassy that's where I looked in Wembley. I am usually a but frazzled by the time I get there though.
Yes to freezer bags. Also the glass dishes with clip on lids for freezer to oven batch cooking.

mildshock · 11/01/2019 18:57

I love the ikea veg peeler, and garlic crusher Grin

Kallax units have been great for extra storage.

Bath mats are lovely.

The stainless steel roasting pans are the best I've ever used. I think the biggest one cost £10, though could be mistaken. MIL has had hers for over 10 years, used every other day, and they still look fairly new.

mildshock · 11/01/2019 18:59

Also the waterproof mattress protectors are very good, and cheap.

mildshock · 11/01/2019 19:05

My God, I forgot the £15 high chair. The bibs, sippy cups, and baby cutlery. Tupperware, chopping boards, bedding sets.
