Best box sets to watch with early teens

Inspired by another post, I am keen to build in a bit more family time with 14 year old DD to entice her from her room at night. We do watch films together once or twice a week, mainly at weekends. We loved watching ‘I’m a Celeb’ before Xmas but there is nothing on at the moment during the week which will entertain us all so wondering about a box set?

On the other thread someone mentioned ‘Big Bang Theory’. Any other suggestions?

Our DD likes The Undateables and First Dates atm.

basilsenia · 11/01/2019 13:47

CookieSwirlC · 11/01/2019 13:47

TitchyP · 11/01/2019 13:52

Stranger Things!

heymammy · 11/01/2019 13:53

Yes, I second a series of unfortunate events, dd1 (15) loves it! We have also watched The Good Place, The End of the fucking world, Glee, Riverdale, birdbox (it's a film not a series) and I think we'll watch You next.

All of these are on Netflix btw, oh and dd loves Brooklyn 99 but I can take it or leave it!

heymammy · 11/01/2019 13:54

Of course TitchyP how could I forget stranger things!!

TowerRingInferno · 11/01/2019 13:56

It crowd
Father ted
Big Bang theory
Modern family
Designated survivor (series 1 much better than 2 though)
Alan partridge
Blackadder
Back in time for .... series
Dragons den

Canshopwillshop · 11/01/2019 13:57

Thanks, will look at those suggestions. We have seen the film of ‘Unfortunate Events’, are the series different?

Ds likes warehouse 13 & the librarians
DD & I used to watch vampire diaries & the originals

Canshopwillshop · 11/01/2019 13:59

Oh and we watched Bird Box recently and she loved it.

Yes the series covers all the books whereas the film only covers maybe the first two books? It's suitably wacky and very watchable...it also has Neil Patrick Harris as count Olaf - he's brilliant!

Canshopwillshop · 11/01/2019 14:08

@heymammy - thank you. Will definitely give that a try. Maybe would need to skip the first series though to avoid repetition of film.

Don't skip the first season of a series of unfortunate events, it has bits in that the film completely cut out, the film is also not in the right order, the bit at the end of the film with the wedding is actually in the the first book.

AnneOfCleavage · 11/01/2019 14:21

Pretty Little Liars
Big Little Lies
Friends
Alexa and Katie
The Next Step
Sam and Cat

Canshopwillshop · 11/01/2019 14:23

@crow2018 - ok, thanks for that tip.

Thanks to everyone else for all your recommendations. Feeling quite excited at the prospect of watching some good tv!

Supernatural!

Beetle76 · 11/01/2019 15:33

Gilmore Girls
How I met your mother

But both are probably a bit dated now.

cowfacemonkey · 11/01/2019 15:34

Friday night dinner. DS loves it

CrochetBug · 11/01/2019 15:37

Friday night dinner
Fawlty Towers
Series of unfortunate events

All enjoyed by my 12 and 14 year olds recently.

Canshopwillshop · 11/01/2019 16:16

Oh thanks crochet - hadn’t thought about Fawlty Towers. I can see DS liking that!

Pinkiii · 11/01/2019 17:59

Gilmore girls
Happy place
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

Im loving fresh off the boat myself atm, that’s worth a go if you like sitcoms and were young in the 90’s

implantsandaDyson · 11/01/2019 18:23

Gilmore Girls
The Good Place
Brooklyn 99
Riverdale
Friends
This is Us

They've all been watched recently by my 13 year old. Brooklyn 99 appears to be on a constant loop at any given time in our house.

donut93 · 11/01/2019 18:25

Pretty little liars on Netflix is good!
