Harry potter party ideas

Hi all, struggling a bit so hoping the hive mind can help.

The kids want to have some friends over to watch Harry Potter, so we're going to do movies 1 & 2. I'm going to make our usual butterbeer recipe and also chocolate frogs with rice crispies inside and chocolate frogs with a mellow filling, and some jelly slugs so that's the sweet stuff sorted but I need some more ideas to make it a fun Harry Potter day.

My kids are 5 and 7 so their friends will range from 5 to around 8, and there will only be a handful of them but if anyone has any ideas for something fun we could do that would be a huge help.

Thanks!

Saving these ideas for my significant bday this year, is that sad!
I am a fanatic. DH bought me and DD the Studio Tour, hotel, train and spending money last christmas as a surprise. Best gift ever.

Thank you all. Have done some very productive ordering for craft materials today, so will be making floating candles and dementor pinatas very soon!

You can buy some good imitation Harry Potter wands from EBay, they’re reasonably priced.

Great idea for a party theme 🧙‍♂️

@Miana Another vote of affirmation for the food colouring to change the colour of drinks. It reminds me of the original Mary Poppins when she pours the medicine, and it comes out different colours - according to IMDB trivia, Jane's cry of surprise was genuine, as she wasn't expecting it.

With the Apparition idea above, the parent who did it presented it as an Apparition lesson, complete with Wilkie Twycross. For the kids who protested about being blindfolded, he told them that eyeballs were in particular danger of being Splinched, in reference to "Harry had a vision of an eyeball being abandoned in Privet Drive", so a Hogwarts scarf would keep them in place. Chopsticks make fairly decent wands.
