Random PIP Payment - Can Anyone Help Me?

So basically, I've claimed DLA all of my life, switched over to PIP 3 years ago. Was granted daily living and they took away my mobility award - which I previously had.

However fast forward to now, I've gone for my assessment last week (haven't heard back yet) as my current claim is nearly over - got paid my usual amount last Thursday and looked at my bank account this morning and they've paid triple of my usual amount into my account on top of my monthly payment last week.

Does anyone know why this could be? I'm worried it means they won't renew my claim and they're giving me 1 lump sum but it doesn't end until June/July time so it would be more than what they have paid in! - haven't received a letter and I'm going to ring them tomorrow as I'm too scared to touch the money until I know why it is there but has this happened to anyone else / does anyone know what this could mean? Is it possible I've been awarded the mobility part and they're paying the extra?

I'm so confused Confused hopefully someone will come by soon and reassure me!

TIA.

This'll mean you've been awarded. The extra money will be the difference between your previous award and your new award, backdated to the date of your renewal form. The speed of the award means it seems likely that you scored well over the required number of points-they knock the easy ones out first.
Well done, I know it's stressful Smile

Ah thank you so much for replying - I really hope that's the case! Fingers crossed they send me a letter soon to confirm 🤞🏻

Have you signed up for the text service? It's really worth doing so if you haven't. They send a text at the various stages of the application and then when an award is made, and the text often gets there a full week or more before any letters-plus you know pretty much what the letters will say when they arrive so that reduces that anxiety.
Anyway, congratulations. I would give them a ring to check the level of the award but, for future reference, DWP lump sumps always mean a backpayment of some kind.

Hi, thanks for replying! How do I subscribe to the text service? I didn't even know that was a thing! Thanks Smile

Similar thing happened to me after my PIP renewal assessment - the new rate was paid out well before I had any notification of what had been awarded, so was a bit puzzled.

When you phone them up ask to be subscribed to the text service. It's as easy as that, they just need your mobile number and your permission. It covers updates on things like ESA and UC as well if you claim them. Much faster than waiting for the post.

Hiya yeah they usually always pay you your back payment before you get your letter informing you that you've got it.

Hope they've given you mobility this time! X
