Do you know any or are you one?

I was having a casual conversation with a friend about what I'm doing tomorrow, not much, ordering Chinese takeaway, reading and watching some films. My friend was horrified that I'm going to have fried rice with my Chinese. Apparently no one does that. Every single person orders boiled rice with their Chinese takeaway. You can't have fried rice with a Chinese. Everyone knows that.

She's like this with so many things. She's becoming known as 'You can't have' because she says it constantly. She's lovely but I feel that she's turning into a Peter Kay sketch. Almost every time I have something she says 'but you can't have that'. Things that you can't have include mayonnaise on a burger, tea and cake, it's coffee with cake and tea with biscuits apparently, Fish with potatoes in any other form, it has to be chips. Sushi without soy sauce etc. I'm starting to cringe when she wants to go for a meal or coffee because I know what's coming and she's so insistent about it.

It's a minor issue I know, but I'm curious to know if you know anyone like this.

P.S She is not autistic but I am.

I never get boiled rice if im getting something from the chinese that isnt chicken chow mein. A chicken curry always has fried rice with it in my book, to have boiled rice is a no no

I do tell my DP that garden peas don’t go with Spaghetti Bollocknaise though.
As for boiled rice with a Chinese, utter madness.

Verbena87 · 10/01/2019 21:13

No, but OP your writing made me chuckle out loud. Your ps made me grin and then your description of the pasta inquisition made me actually laugh. I agree with the increasingly loopy food combinations. Possibly after doing this for a while you could go back to normal-but-supposedly-unacceptable things like egg fried rice and she’d be so relieved you weren’t eating bananas in ketchup she’d shut up about it?

My great aunt who grew up during rationing and hated waste once made leftovers sandwiches using mashed bananas and tinned sardines. It was not the best picnic I’ve been at!

I used to live in China and fried rice is 100% a legit acompiment to Chinese food

The only thing that I get sniffy about is pizza AND garlic bread. I think it’s too much bread, but I don’t try to stop dh eating it. Though actually I do have another pizza one - pizza and ketchup. I don’t see why you need ketchup when the pizza has tomato sauce in anyway. But again, I don’t try to stop dh from having it!

Apparently Parmesan does not go on pasta dishes containing fish.

Cue my hard stare at the waiter who informed me of this ‘fact’.

ShakeYourTailFeathers · 10/01/2019 21:17

why would anyone choose boiled rice when special fried rice is on offer? Confused

Cookit · 10/01/2019 21:17

Not the point but I always order boiled rice with my Chinese but the next Chinese I get I’m going to go for fried!

dramallamaforamama · 10/01/2019 21:21

I worked in a Chinese takeaway for years. She's completely wrong. EVERYONE orders egg fried rice. Only a small minority's order boiled rice. Feel free to tell her that from me. Case closed.

It's come very close TootToot! I mostly nod and smile, while silently screaming.

Tell her she will enjoy the pre Christmas threads on MN discussing at length whether these things belong as part of a turkey Christmas Dinnner:
Cauliflower cheese
Yorkshire puddings
Mash
Carrots and Peas

It will keep her busy all year.

I introduced DS1 to crispy duck as he can't digest fat, even with medication he can't digest it all, so he has to eat high fat foods. It's one of his favourites now as an adult. We also all love special fried rice.

As most people have said, eat what you want with whatever. Though I was a tiny bit taken aback when my DM served a lovely chilli, accompanied by carrots, boiled celery and sprouts. Confused
