You know spring is coming when....

You go into the supermarket, and they're selling a bunch of daffs for a quid.

And you think "I'm skint"

"fuck it"

And buy them anyway, and have a week of small moments of joy every time you look at them. Screw the weather.... I know spring's coming.

What let's you know the season's changing?

I like this...

I was sad to get rid of my poinsettia plant and my table looks bare. Daffs.. I'm coming to get you!

Luckingfovely · 10/01/2019 11:46

I love the first bunch of daffs! Haven't seen any yet, going to hunt now!

Thesearmsofmine · 10/01/2019 11:48

Daffs are my favourite, I must pop to the supermarket and buy a few bunches!

GiantKitten · 10/01/2019 11:53

Snowdrops are out!

Opheliasgoldenwine · 10/01/2019 12:47

Our local supermarket has Easter eggs out Shock

BooksAreMyOnlyFriends · 10/01/2019 12:49

The supermarkets all have bags of flour, jars of nutella and jif lemons on the end end of the aisles.

CallMeSirShotsFired · 10/01/2019 15:17

My daffs are already several inches high (of greenery) outside my front door!

MysweetAudrina · 10/01/2019 15:29

Daffs for me too. I love a big jug of daffs on the table. dh planted me loads in the Autumn so hopefully they will be visiting soon.

Spudlet · 10/01/2019 15:32

The light changes. It hasn't quite changed yet, though it was close earlier this week. But it will soon, the light will change and it will be Spring. I can't explain how it changes, but it does!

Love some daffodils, they're beautiful. I never buy flowers for the house, apart from those!

troubleswillbeoutofsight · 10/01/2019 15:50

There’s a different smell in the air. I was gardening earlier this week and smelled it but it’s gone now

MrsMoastyToasty · 10/01/2019 15:52

When I start sneezing. I get hayfever and daffodil pollen is one of the first triggers of the season.

FreshlyWashed · 10/01/2019 15:53

I worry about snowdrops/early blossom et al at this time of year. When it's a cold night, I want to run out with fleecy things to wrap them up! (I'm not mad enough to actually do this, obvs!).

Blimey where do you all live? It's bloody freezing here and feels like winter is properly taking hold.

MrsExpo · 10/01/2019 15:55

Snowdrops are out and my horse has started moulting his very thick winter coat. Nights are starting to draw out as well .... onwards and upwards everyone .......

Babdoc · 10/01/2019 15:56

I’ve had wallflowers in full bloom outside since Christmas Eve - and I live in Scotland! The daffodils are through the soil and a good four inches high, although obviously not near flowering yet. The snowdrops are in bud and the weeds are beginning to flourish on the driveway.
It will all end in tears when the snow and ice arrive, but a short spell of “false spring” is a nice tonic at this time of year.

Calvinsmam · 10/01/2019 15:57

Doesn’t feel like we’ve had winter yet here.
Last year winter didn’t really hit until mid Feb and kept going until mid March.

GroggyLegs · 10/01/2019 15:57

There's usually a day in early March, when you go out in your winter coat but the sun is shining and warm and you can feel in your bones that spring has arrived.

It's my favourite day of the year.

AlbertWinestein · 10/01/2019 16:00

We’ve only had one decent snowstorm yet so winters barely started here! That said, it was noticeably lighter driving to work this week than on January 2nd so that made me smile.

Spudlet · 10/01/2019 16:03

It's definitely Winter with a capital W here today. The fire is lit and we are hunkered down inside! I've only just got the full feeling back in my toes from this morning and we got back three hours ago Blush

But earlier in the week, it didn't feel like Spring, but you could tell that it was lurking under the surface, waiting to pop out in a couple of months.

I'd quite like some snow between now and then though, not quite as much as last year, but enough for DS and ddog and me to play in, which can then bugger off before it becomes inconvenient. Don't want much, do I... Grin

Starlight90 · 10/01/2019 16:44

Yep, daffs. Being Welsh i ALWAYS have daffs when they’re available.

Plus i see my ewes are pregnant!
