Bowel scope screening

I've been called in for this as I'm 55; has anyone on here had it and can tell me how it was? I have to give myself and enema an hour before but I will probably poo myself inside out with nerves anyway!

It's v v common, and easy enough to tolerate.

What I will say is read the instructions carefully on the enema and take it to the letter. I've often read results that say "Incomplete preparation, difficult to ascertain XYZ". That means there was poo in the way and they couldn't see everything and it's a bit of a wasted procedure then.

I’ve had one and it wasn’t pleasant (I opted for it without any sort of anaesthetic) but it did only take 2 mins and then I was free to leave after having a cup of tea and a biscuit. I was very worried about the enema beforehand as had images of me shitting myself in public. It really wasn’t bad thought- the enema took about 2-3 mins to work and then I just had an urge to go (nothing extreme). Everything came out (sorry TMI) when I sat on the toilet and it was clear that I was empty with nothing else to come. I had no other urges after that to go again.
Good luck and hope it’s all ok for you

I've had one too. The enema was easy to use and I was congratulated on having such a clean bowel! I just followed the instructions.
The screening was painful for me. Apparently getting the probe round a couple of kinks was hard and that caused the pain. Had a bit of gas and air which helped but made me weepy. Staff were lovely (I had six in the room which was a bit overwhelming).
But it does save lives and therefore it's worth the embarrassment and temporary pain.

Hope it goes ok for you.

Thanks everyone. Can't say that I'm looking forward to it but I'm going ahead. Bloody big G&T afterwards!

Good luck. Even though it’s painful just remember that it will be over by the time you have counted to 100 and millions of people have had them done. It will be over before you know it and you’ll be relaxing with that g&t :-D

had it done yesterday and it bloody hurt! Thankfully it was all over in a few minutes but I might have yelled a bit Blush

Also complimented on my nice, clean bowel; VERY relieved that they didn't find anything.

Nurses reckon they get very little uptake locally for the screening; wasn't a nice experience but am glad I did it
