Learning to code - free courses?

I'd like to learn to code. Has anyone done it in their free-time for either fun or career progression? What course did you follow and are any of the free courses decent? I don't have a lot of time to commit to it, but I would like a new challenge.

I’m also wanting to learn how to code! I have came across both code academy and free code camp. I’ve not had chance to try them out yet but they do look good at face value and have good reviews.

I'm of the generation who was largely self-taught, but so long ago I don't have any useful specific recommendations. But hope you find something that suits you - have fun!
