What to put as reference, Ds 20, sacked from last job ,

Hi
Ds was working as an apprentice and ended up (after 14m) getting sacked.
He had hated it for ages and took to much time "sick" or was late etc .

All completely his own fault.
(I'd literally begged him to "jump before he was pushed")

I run a very small business (sole trader) and he's be doing work for me whilst he looks for another job.

For work reference who should he put down ?

My business or the old Apprentiship ?

If you have the same surname won't they assume you're his mum?

Your business. He won't get a good reference from the apprentice role and yours is more recent. Don't most applications need 2 references though?

We have different surnames , so that helps
