Help - emetohobic and decorator might have a stomach bug

Decorator has been here since Monday paining the downstairs. He's only in one room which we haven't been in since he started.

This morning he said he's feeling ropey and his wife and child have had a stomach bug which he thought he may be coming down with.

What are our chances of getting it? The dds have been out at school all day and I've not been around him much. I'm going to clean the door handles etc with a bleach spray but suppose we've already picked it up from him?

Sorry I know this sounds really pathetic but if you are a fellow emet you will understand.

He's gone home btw.

I feel your pain :(

As long as he didn't have D or V whilst at your house there's very, very little chance that any of you will catch anything. Stomach bugs are spread through D and V particles, so he isn't contagious until he has D or V.

I would thoroughly clean door handles, light switches, bathroom and any other surfaces he is likely to have touched. I would also thoroughly wash any cups or mugs he has used - just to be on the safe side. Ask him not to come back until 48 hours after any D or V!

Thank you, I thought it was also air-borne so that's why I was worrying.

Also he filled up his water bottle at the kitchen sink so I'm worrying about the tap.

get some cbt lined up for this. helped my emetophobic dd no end

then you can talk yourself through it rather than needing reassurances

the tap will not be a problem.

He messaged me last night to say he wanted to come today! Still not sure if he went down with it or not. I said no to today but he wants to come tomorrow!

@twosoups1972 ah this would make me crazy with anxiety!😖

Unfortunately this time of year (especially if you have kids!) it is around more.

I would thoroughly disinfect everything possible he could have touched and basically cry with anxiety for the next few days in anticipation of getting ill! 😫

I'm sure you'll be fine though, as long as he wasn't sick when he was with you.

twosoups1972 · 10/01/2019 11:47

No he wasn't ill here yesterday, he just said he felt dodgy. But for all I know, he could have had D&V today and yesterday and wants to come back tomorrow as he can't afford to lose money (I'm guessing).

@twosoups1972 I see, that would be so bad of him to do that! Definitely leave it a few days just in case.

I would be so pissed if someone who was knowingly ill came to my house😠

Hope all turns out okay! X

Oh God, I feel your pain.

Last night as we were going to bed DP casually dropped in to conversation that our friend (and his colleague) had been off work that day with a stomach bug. We'd spent the evening before with him so I lay awake the whole night awake fretting.

I know it's ridiculous but I can't help the fear.

waterplease · 10/01/2019 14:06

@thatmustbenigelwiththebrie try not to panic, praying it all turns out okay for you and you don't get sick! It's such a nightmare😖
