If someone said that you were “from good stock” what would that mean to you?

How would you interpret it if someone said that you were from “good stock”.

It wasn’t said directly, but rather to a friend who passed it on to me. I met said person at a dinner party, and he is said to have told my friend that he “could tell I was from good stock”

It would mean whoever said it is a twat. And a snob.
But mostly a twat.

FadedRed · 08/01/2019 20:58

Did he mistake you for a racehorse?

Whatabloodymessthisis · 08/01/2019 20:58

From a ‘good’ family.

zukman · 08/01/2019 20:59

Pray tell, am I a pedigree poodle?

Bit upper class, got a brain, skinny ankles Grin

Bowchicawowow · 08/01/2019 20:59

He compares women to brood mares.

glamorousgrandmother · 08/01/2019 20:59

It's referring to aristocratic ancestry. But, yes, he's a twat.

halfwitpicker · 08/01/2019 20:59

Posh

SexNotJenga · 08/01/2019 21:00

Sounds like it is intended as a compliment but would make me wonder if the speaker was a snob / weirdo. Also, they're basically saying "well done that woman's parents", which to me is a bit patronising towards a grown adult.

unlimiteddilutingjuice · 08/01/2019 21:00

I would think "sturdy and healthy" but I think it could also mean from a respectable family.

Playdonut · 08/01/2019 21:00

It means that your family is posh

halfwitpicker · 08/01/2019 21:00

Let's see :

You've got good teeth
Good hair
Nice skin
Wear clothes well

But most of all you've got an RP accent

Scrowy · 08/01/2019 21:01

It would be considered one of the highest compliments in the farming community.

Elsewhere... perhaps not.

NoArmaniNoPunani · 08/01/2019 21:03

A man who would say that enjoys being spanked and can't locate the clitoris

frogortoad · 08/01/2019 21:03

For me, either he is a snob and thinks you are a bit posh - what tailfeathers said.

Or if he isn’t posh it could be a bit ‘Del Boy’, something he has overheard and is completely misquoting as in “that zukman is from good stock” meaning he fancies you or some sort of compliment.

Whatabloodymessthisis · 08/01/2019 21:04

I agree that if said by someone in the farming community it might come across differently/better.

IncomingCannonFire · 08/01/2019 21:04

It means you have decent family bloodlines/ genetic history. But I would think s/he was a bit of a snob if not a racist.

YeOldeTrout · 08/01/2019 21:05

I don't like it, sounds racist.

SD1978 · 08/01/2019 21:08

I'd say it refers to perceived breeding. Is a twatty comment that says you come from the 'right' type of family. Did he ask to see your teeth?

greendale17 · 08/01/2019 21:09

A good family.

isupposeitsverynice · 08/01/2019 21:09

yeah it would mean that person was a twat

Chestnut23 · 08/01/2019 21:11

Hugely offensive, and - yes - racist.

SuziQ10 · 08/01/2019 21:11

From a good family.
Not necessarily posh or anything, but a good / nice family background.

It's a compliment. Although a bit of a weird / outdated one.

MissWilmottsGhost · 08/01/2019 21:12

That they are an arse?

It's one of those phrases people think is flattering when it really isn't Hmm

Bowchicawowow · 08/01/2019 21:13

Of course it means she is posh.
