Question I got wrong on a screen test which I think I got right

So the question is-

Assume that the first 2 statements are true. Is the final one:

1. True
2. False
3. Not certain?

Great men are ridiculed
I am ridiculed
I am a great man

So I answered 3 - not certain and was marked wrong because the official answer is 2- false. But I still think I'm right! Unless it is because I am female and I was literally supposed to answer as if the statements are from me about myself?

Putting it to the Mumsnet jury- which is the right answer?

I would say not certain too. I don't understand how it can definitely be false.

2 would only be the correct answer if the statements were:

Only Great men are ridiculed
I am ridiculed
I am a great man

The first two statements do not say that everyone who is ridiculed is a great man, so the answer is 3.

the words "Great men are ridiculed" doesn't preclude the fact that others are also ridiculed.

I think maybe it's false, uncertain seems an odd term to use, 'don't know' would be a better last option

I would have answered the same way as you, and I agree that the only way I can see 2 as being correct is if they wanted you to answer as a female who obviously couldn't be a man, great or otherwise. But then what would male participants answer? Would "Not Sure" be correct for them?

If you were supposed to just answer as female then what is the point of the first two statements, it's not a logic question then is it? And unless it has been made clear you are supposed to answer as female then its not very fair.

Because you then think the last statement is related to the first 2 but it’s not necessarily.

It's a bit of an unfair trick question if they did expect people to ignore the information given and answer as themselves. Can you ask for an explanation, as I think I need to know their reasoning! Not impossible that they've made a mistake, either.

It's a Wonderlic test. I mean I got the job anyway and apparently was in the top 3% in terms of the overall test scores . It only popped up because I was looking at my marked one today and thought hang on- I bloody got that right! So I found the official answer sheet and it does indeed say that the correct answer is false.

But if you WERE a great man then the answer would be 1 surely? But you are not so the answer is 2. You are either a great man or you are not. You can't be unsure about it.

I'd say 3 as well.

Even if there was a "therefore" before the third statement, which I think is missing, you'd still wouldn't know if it was true or not, although the overall expression would be false (because the first two being true don't imply the third is true).
