Waking a sleeping baby?

Hi all

Posting here for traffic!

My baby is 8 months old and has been poorly with a cold for the last 3 days. He’s over the worst of it but it messed up his sleeping pattern and he missed a lot of sleep. This afternoon he has slept on and off since 1.30pm and is still asleep now! Do I wake him so he sleeps at night in a few hours or do I just leave him? I’ve always been in the don’t wake them up camp but don’t want to be up all night because he’s slept too long now!

What would you do?

If it were me, and the nap was bordering on significantly longer than normal, I would try waking them to try and avoid an ongoing sleep pattern change. My DD was actually fairly easy to settle which would have been a factor.

Bearing in mind what you say about him missing sleep while ill, I'd leave him and deal with the consequences. Sounds like he needs to catch up and can get back on track later in the week.

I'd change his nappy and take his temperature. Just to make sure Smile

Just make sure you can arouse him, but let him sleep if he wants to.
Yes, tonight and the next couple of nights may be dreadful, but he will need hydrating so go with it.

I dread my kids getting poorly, yes they sleep all day, but come bedtime they want food and water! If possible, get some rest before he wakes, you may need it.

He will be back to normal routine soon. A sleeping baby is a recovering baby.

If he has been ill and is over the worst of it, I would just let him sleep to catch up.
