If your nephew sent you this:
Hamlet: O, että tämä liian liian suloinen liha sulaisi, sulaa ja ratkaisee itsensä kasteeksi,
Tai että ikuinen ei ollut kiinnittynyt
Hänen canon-voitonsa, itsetuho, Jumala,
Kuinka väsynyt, vanhentunut, tasainen ja kannattamaton
Katso minulle kaikki tämän maailman käyttötavat?
Fie on, ah fie, on tarpeeton puutarha
Oo pahin nopeus; julkaista
Sellaisen levottomuuden kanssa, että se on tuhoisia

Context:
DN is 16 and DH's blood relative, though I've known him since he was 2. We were quite close when he was younger. A few years ago his mum and dad split up. We kept in touch with SIL and made the effort to visit and see them whenever we visited DPIL (admittedly not often!) We also used to see him through his dad too. Everything seemed fine.

Recently he seems to have fallen out with BIL, but not really sure why. This obviously means we haven't seen him much at all. I think last time there was any contact with us was last Christmas. Not an excuse but I've spent a lot of this year suffering through my third pregnancy and having a newborn, so not been great generally at keeping in touch with people!

Anyway... it's DH's 40th this year, so I messaged his family to try to arrange a day everyone is free (shift workers!) to meet for a meal. DN responded with this, then left the WhatsApp group. I'm not really sure what to make of it tbh! I did google translate, but it's Shakespeare which I don't understandBlush

Well done if you got to the end of that! Does anyone have any insights?

That isn’t in English is it? What language does your nephew speak? Can you post an English translation?

OrangeSunsets · 07/01/2019 14:48

I can’t select all of it to put in google translate but the odd word I’ve put in appears to be Finnish!

cjt110 · 07/01/2019 14:48

Just ask him did he mean to send you some Hamlet in Finnish

whoami24601 · 07/01/2019 14:51

According to google translate it's Finnish. DN speaks English and there are no Finnish relations that I know of! Here's the English:
Hamlet: O that this overly sweet meat would melt, melt, and solve itself as baptism,
Or that eternal was not attached
His canon victory, self-destruction, God,
How tired, outdated, flat and unprofitable
See all the uses of this world for me?
Fie is, ah fie, there is an unnecessary garden
It grows when it goes, rancke and rose in nature, Possesse only. It should come here:
But two months dead, not so much, no two, so excellent king
Hyperion to the satyr, so loving my mother that she does not hit the winds of heaven Visite her face too roughly. Heaven and earth, do I have to remember? Why, he hung up on him as if it were an increase in appetite
What is it bait and still within a month
(Don't think your name is weak), a little month or eternity were old
With whom he followed my Poore father's body, like Niobe, all teares, why he, even he
O God, a beast who wants a discourse of reason
It would be sad longer - married to my uncle, my father's brother, but I'm no longer than my dad
Like me to Hercules. Within a month
Was still the salt of most false tears
He had left his rinsing in his bile
He got married. O the worst speed; publish
With anxiety that it is destructive

This is the actual speech, as opposed to the translation...

that this too too solid flesh would melt,
Thaw, and resolve itself into a dew!
Or that the Everlasting had not fix'd
His canon 'gainst self-slaughter! O God! God!
How weary, stale, flat, and unprofitable
Seem to me all the uses of this world!
Fie on't! ah, fie! 'Tis an unweeded garden
That grows to seed; things rank and gross in nature
Possess it merely. That it should come to this!
But two months dead! Nay, not so much, not two.
So excellent a king, that was to this
Hyperion to a satyr; so loving to my mother
That he might not beteem the winds of heaven
Visit her face too roughly. Heaven and earth!
Must I remember? Why, she would hang on him
As if increase of appetite had grown
By what it fed on; and yet, within a month-
Let me not think on't! Frailty, thy name is woman!-
A little month, or ere those shoes were old
With which she followed my poor father's body
Like Niobe, all tears- why she, even she
(O God! a beast that wants discourse of reason
Would have mourn'd longer) married with my uncle;
My father's brother, but no more like my father
Than I to Hercules. Within a month,
Ere yet the salt of most unrighteous tears
Had left the flushing in her galled eyes,
She married. O, most wicked speed, to post
With such dexterity to incestuous sheets!
It is not, nor it cannot come to good.
But break my heart, for I must hold my tongue!

OrangeSunsets · 07/01/2019 14:53

Looks like a mistake then! Somehow he’s managed to copy and paste it to your group! Just message him and ask why he sent you Hamlet in Finnish Grin

LanaorAna2 · 07/01/2019 14:55

It's Hamlet's flesh into dew soliloquy' about agency and the power of choice.

Points for effort, Google translate. Must be a grade 3 GCSE awaiting that algorithm :)

picklemepopcorn · 07/01/2019 14:55

Unless you think too hard about the plot and he's inferring something about his dad's relationship with you, or your DHs relationship with his mum....

LanaorAna2 · 07/01/2019 14:56

Has anyone in your family remarried hastily after a sudden mystery bereavement?

whoami24601 · 07/01/2019 15:28

His dad did remarry, but not massively quickly. He came to the wedding and was perfectly happy with it! No other weddings...

OP posts:
whoami24601 · 07/01/2019 16:41

I asked him what it was, and he didn't reply then left the group! I've messaged him separately about something else, but he's not read it yet.

OP posts:
whoami24601 · 07/01/2019 18:43

Maybe I'm reading too much into it then I guess. Just seemed like it might mean something given that he then left and hasn't responded to any other messages!

OP posts:
whoami24601 · 11/01/2019 19:47

Haha turns out I'm an over thinker- I'd sent the message to his old number Grin the random Finnish reply wasn't even from him!

OP posts:
picklemepopcorn · 11/01/2019 20:43

Mystery solved!

Bezalelle · 11/01/2019 21:22

How bizarre!
