I'm not a good cook but I've got friends coming over tomorrow for lunch. They are the very hospitable type and always make lovely food whenever I visit them.

I know it's nothing fancy but I thought I'd attempt to make tomato soup for lunch tomorrow. I've just made it and the taste is quite nice but even though I've thoroughly blended it with the hand blender, it has bits in it.

It's mainly seeds from the tomato's that don't seem to be soft 😩

I have no time tomorrow to go to the shops before they arrive and I have no alternatives in the house! What can I do to salvage this?

Thanks

Put it through a seive?

Obviouspretzel · 06/01/2019 22:53

Push it through a fine sieve?

  1. Is it really that bad to find tomato pips in tomato soup?

  2. if yes, put the soup tjroygh a sieve - should fix it.

Bits is fine, call it chunky tomato soup.

Clawdy · 06/01/2019 22:54

Maybe put it on the hob to simmer for an hour?

BanjoStarz · 06/01/2019 22:55

And it you don’t have a fine enough sieve...line a colander with a pair of (clean!!!!) tights or muslin cloth.

diymania · 06/01/2019 22:55

I’d try straining it with a sieve, or two sieves together - you might be able to get rid of majority of seeds with that. But to be honest, I doubt your friends will kind the seeds...shows it’s homemade and rustic!

GobblersKnob · 06/01/2019 22:55

Yup, sieve it :)

Karwomannghia · 06/01/2019 22:56

If you’ve got any sundried tomatoes in a jar put some in and blend them in too, they’ll make it taste really nice.

TwitterQueen1 · 06/01/2019 22:57

If you don't have a fine sieve just use a pair of tights or a popsock. But really, it doesn't matter Smile. You made soup - it's a Yum from me.

FreshlyWashed · 06/01/2019 22:57

I prefer it with bits, but each to their own.

Hope you've got some lovely bread to dip into it. Yum!

CantStopTheFeeling2 · 06/01/2019 23:04

Okay... I think I might just leave the bits then! I'm often guilty of ruining things in the process of trying to make them perfect Grin it does taste nice at the moment and I think in all honesty, I'm comparing it to the Heinz cream of tomato stuff 😂 which it tastes nothing like!

Quick question though, is it okay to leave the soup out overnight? It's far too hot to put in the fridge just now.

Thanks so much everyone!

Fine to leave overnight (assuming you are in a country that's having winter now!). I made soup tonight and it'll cool on the hob overnight, I'll box up and freeze tomorrow. There's nothing in Tomato soup that'll rise up and kill you in one evening!
