Has anyone used Nextdoor for neighbourhood chat?

Has anyone used Nextdoor for neighbourhood chat?

I don’t use Facebook and would like a verified chat forum rather than the random people you find on twitter. But it asks for a lot of data - name, postal code, address, phone, mail - so I want to know how good it is first.

I joined a different one a while back with no activity, so they got my details for free!

I’ve just the TrustPilot reviews and they are baaaaaad.. From fake stamps (!) to invites pretending to be from real neighbours, it sounds dubious.
Does anyone here have first hand experience?

I’m on it, sort of by default really as it was previously Streetlife, I find it useful for local information, recommendations etc.

Yeah we've got it in my area too. It's not really used as a chat forum though, more to alert people to things going on in the neighborhood - drug dealers, suspicious men knocking on doors, burglaries, that type of thing (can you tell I live in a nice area Grin)

Thanks both!!
That's the kind of local news I'm keen to hear (I must be a sucker for good and bad news!). Maybe I'll just give it a go..

i'm on it with a fake name because my real name is too easy to google. most of your info stays private (I think) but look carefully at the settings.

it is quite active in postings about crime / babysitters / lost cats etc.

I tried to sign up when it changed from Streetlife. It didn't recognise my details.
People were having concerns about security so I didn't bother with it. Neighbourhood watch type thing is run on ours. I still use local FB groups and the local Police FB page for those.
Prefer Kahooti and the others.

I used to belong to Streetlife but, similar to you OP, I didn't like what I was reading in the reviews for NextDoor so decided not to transfer over.

There is another, independent local forum which I belong to, but I hardly ever use it.

I'm on one and find it quite useful - in fact I found out about my current job from Nextdoor. I get the daily digest. A lot of it is posts asking for recommendations for tradespeople, notifications of local events and discussions of things like dog poo, parking and new housing developments. With the odd exception most people are polite.

We have it in my area and it's really useful. Lots of people looking for recommendations for trades people, lost cats and suspicious characters. The users are very polite and different from another local online forum that we have in my area, where things get argumentative!
