Late nursery bill what to say?

Two weeks late on DS nursery bill I had no access to money as me and oh split up.
I finally have it now but I'm going to be stung with a £50 late fee which I can't afford.

Shall I tell them why and ask for them if they can let me of this time or just leave it?

I would be honest with them - explain the situation and see if they are willing to waive it.

I previously was chair of a nursery and I would have waived the late fee in these circumstances. You’ve got nothing to lose by asking
