They can be good looking too, but that’s not the main reason you find them attractive. Or they have a good voice on the radio and you have no idea what they look like.

I have gone off him a bit now, but mine used to be Ian Hislop.

No shaming!

Marcus de sautoy, maths expert,

Brian cox, Louis Theroux, Neil Oliver, Michael Mosley and Richard osman, as others have identified.

Mark Lamar, and Stuart marconie from the world of music.

StormyDaniels · 06/01/2019 20:51

Yes to Mark Carney. Plus the competence and sanity when everyone else is looking ridiculous doesn’t harm his appeal either.

User, it was me not xsquared who questioned Vorderman's credentials.

MarthaHanson · 06/01/2019 20:56

Rowan Williams
Mark Carney
Professor Michael Sandel

Littleoakhorn · 06/01/2019 20:58

Miles Jupp and Hugo Rifkind.

Definitely not Brian Cox. I can’t bear physicists.

LambChopsMcGee · 06/01/2019 21:00

I saw the title and came here to say Ian Hislop, thinking I'd be alone and shunned!

Richard Osman definitely. And Simon Schama. Richard Ayoade. Oh and Chris Packham totally, and Robert Peston. Oh yes Miles Jupp! Reading through this list...

God.
I love smart men. It's really the most important thing to me. I don't know if that's unreasonable, but it's what attracts me to someone. Being smart, knowledgeable and funny. I think I can be a bit of an intellectual snob and I know it's not nice.

Also Jonathan Franzen.

Stuckforthefourthtime · 06/01/2019 21:03

Richard Ayoade definitely

Jsmith99 · 06/01/2019 21:04

Michael Moseley gets my vote.

DP adores Alice Roberts, which is just fine by me as it means he has excellent taste.

tilder · 06/01/2019 21:06

Is Miles Jupp the one who lived in the castle on Balamory? He is bright and very funny but Balamory...

Yy to intelligence being incredibly attractive. Does it for me. First choice would be Louis Theroux. Yum.

MutantDisco · 06/01/2019 21:08

I met Ben Miller years ago, made a stupid comment and looked like a right narna. Janina Ramirez lives near me and I've bumped into her a couple of times, she seems lovely.

Thethingswedoforlove · 06/01/2019 21:13

Jon Richardson

StormyDaniels · 06/01/2019 21:17

Littleoakhorn may I ask what’s wrong with physicists?! Grin

@xsquared , I don't think you understand how degree classification works. It's not like 'A' levels where everyone in the country takes the same exam. Cambridge degrees are much, much harder than, say, an institution near the bottom of the rankings. Loads of people get thirds from Cambridge. It just means they passed a bloody hard course, but less well than others on the course who got higher grades.

Are you being patronising? I understand perfectly well how it works thank you. I thought the pp was rubbishing Carol Vorderman because she got a third in engineering and hence my comment.

DH was also at Cambridge for his undergrad and Phd. I was there for my PGCE.

xsquared · 06/01/2019 21:19

That was to @uer587392

SirBobblyofSock · 06/01/2019 21:21

Kevin McCloud

theredjellybean · 06/01/2019 21:21

I will get in the queue for Ian hislop..
Boris Johnson (oh god that's embarrassing) and Bill nighy

Clever, posh and funny... Its my fatal weakness

LambChopsMcGee · 06/01/2019 21:23

Ohh Louis Theroux defo,

and Jon Stewart. He might actually win, for me.

OnTrain · 06/01/2019 21:25

Simon mayo Blush It’s his voice, or the way he speaks to people

Popcornandbuttons · 06/01/2019 21:28

I'm currently catching up on the new series of Criminal Minds - a big hefty vote for the character of Spencer Reid from me.

VCM is excellent too

WanderingTrolley1 · 06/01/2019 21:35

Louis Theroux...

Gulsink · 06/01/2019 22:06

Dr Hannah Fry for me too.

isseywithcats · 06/01/2019 22:08

Brian May sexy, super intelligent and caring
David Tennant comes across as intelligent and eye candy to boot

TeaAddict235 · 08/01/2019 12:36

@Ethel80 you and I are in agreement: Benedict Cumberbatch is neither handsome nor clever. Hence he should not be on this list.

@ElizabethMainwaring I think that unless you have studied engineering at uni, then it is inconceivable to fully understand how hard it is. I did chemical engineering and then a PhD. I worked my socks, shoes and tights off. Once I started my PhD at Imperial I was constantly asked "but what was my ranking" by professors despite being one of the best in my cohort and being one of 4 girls to complete with a masters of higher level.

Carol Vordeman is a brilliant role model, as she graduated long before me before diversity and concern being made towards girls amongst rowdy boys.

She got a third, .....so what, she got her degree in Engineering! Total respect towards her, and do you know what, she still looks fantastically gorgeous too!

halfwitpicker · 08/01/2019 12:37

Kevin Mcloud. I suppose he's a bit clever.

Weepingwillows12 · 08/01/2019 12:45

Simon Reeve
