Recieved a casserole dish type thing from South African family members for Christmas. It looked like it was in original packaging, so it wasn't until today when I was putting away all our Christmas stuff that I opened it properly.

Inside was 2 packets of biltong, a net to cover your sugar dish, and this insane contraption.

What on earth is it, and what do I do with it?!

I have absolutely no idea... if I was to hazzard a guess... to clamp/spike a bit of meat up so it doesn't touch the bottom of the pan and even then I am clutching at straws OP

MiddleClassProblem · 05/01/2019 21:06

Oh it is a calf weening tool!

nomfup44 · 05/01/2019 21:06

It’s for weaning calfs Shock goo.gl/images/cLH7Jj

AnotherOriginalUsername · 05/01/2019 21:07

Apparently it's a calf weaning device

Of course it is! Barbaric things that shouldn't be used but didn't come to mind as I was thinking along the lines of a food prep gadget

Tonkerbea · 05/01/2019 21:07

Some sort of device for preparing a vegetable?

A vegetable grown in Hell.

TheSmallAssassin · 05/01/2019 21:07

As others have said, it does look like this www.amazon.com/Calf-weaning-Preventing-Suckling-Livestock-Equipment/dp/B07HCGGZM8?tag=mumsnetforum-21

Bit of a strange gift!

BluePepper · 05/01/2019 21:08

I did not see it in a sex shop Shock

I saw it in Sainsbury’s. It was flat though, I thought yours was too. I’m afraid I have no idea if it’s no good for pans but judging by the items it came with then it’s a kitchen gadget right?

GrassWasGreener · 05/01/2019 21:08

Ah I know what that is. It is to stop weanling calves trying to suckle and damage each other when they are being weaned. It doesn't hurt the one wearing it. Just makes the other calf that the wearer is going to try and suckle move away from the pointy bits. Otherwise they would just stand there

IamFrauBlucher · 05/01/2019 21:08

Do you have cattle @NickMyLipple ?

Grin
Slippersandacuppa · 05/01/2019 21:09

That’s so sad :(

Osbornemrs · 05/01/2019 21:09

Please Ask the people that gave it to you so we can be put out of our misery 🤷‍♂️ ??

ToftheB · 05/01/2019 21:09

Oh no, poor calves Confused

Bunnybigears · 05/01/2019 21:09

Do you have a calf that needs weaning? Even if you do its a pretty strange gift.

Joinourclub · 05/01/2019 21:10

Oh god hideous. Please tell me that they arent used in the U.K., or 2019 might be the year I turn vegan.

cstaff · 05/01/2019 21:10

Too weird

Osbornemrs · 05/01/2019 21:10

Oh poor calves 😢

Santaisfastasleepatlast · 05/01/2019 21:10

Was going into say loom band frame to keep you busy waiting for the tea to be ready.
Better than the truth.

MrsTommyBanks · 05/01/2019 21:11

A thing to use when you find out your DH has been shagging about.

dementedpixie · 05/01/2019 21:11

Wtf did they send you a calf weaning device?

brokenhead · 05/01/2019 21:12

Is it to juice a lemon ?

Elephantina · 05/01/2019 21:13

It's clearly that weaning device, but WTF would it be doing in Sainsburys??!

Member341379 · 05/01/2019 21:13

They are used in the UK. It is so the milk can be used in the dairy industry rather than the calves drink from their mothers.

MrsTommyBanks · 05/01/2019 21:13

Oh no. That is so sad. Wtf are we doing to animals?
Errant husbands however, are fair game.

NickMyLipple · 05/01/2019 21:14

What the actual fuck?!? I'm as confused as you!!

I don't have cattle, just cats Confused

I wonder if it's some sort of warped joke - I have a 9 month old daughter (But I didn't breast feed, so not sure what that's all about)

So, my next question... should I mention it?? We are going for afternoon tea tomorrow, maybe I should give the barbaric thing back!
