Is my dentist ripping me off?

I was given a gift of teeth whitening at my usual dentist. special offer was on and a gift from my Dsis who had heard me say in passing I would like it (but would never ever pay for it!). My dentist is Bupa and NHS but I am usually an NHS patient.

So I had the moulds done and during the consultation he said to me he could see I grind my teeth at night - I do.

I went to collect the moulds and the whitening liquid. He gives me 4 tubes of 10% opalescence and is talking about leaving the trays in overnight. I said ‘but I grind my teeth, will ruin the mould as my DD ruined hers with grinding really quickly?’

So he changes his mind and says ok wear them for 4 hours and not at night and come back in 1 week for a ‘check up’.

I have come home and googled this product and 10% left in for 4 hours isn’t enough. It’s not the strongest concentration it’s the least and needs 8-10 hours. And I only have 4 vials of liquid.

Am I right in my suspicion that he will then try to charge me for more liquid and this is going to take twice as long?

I am not sure what to say when I next go back. I hope he isn’t expecting to charge me for the follow up visit either! Does anyone have experience of this?
