One abroad sun holiday or a few little UK breaks?

We have two kids, 4 and 7. We've yet to take them abroad, choosing small trips in the UK. Mainly to Scotland as we are already in a northern city.

I really want to take them abroad. Just a week of sun, beach, crappy kids shows with a cocktail on an evening, no thinking about food etc(UK breaks are Self Catering).

I figured if we skip all UK breaks (One week summer, a few days Feb and a night away mid autumn), we would be able to cover about 70% of the utter extortionate prices it costs to go abroad school holidays.

But it's just so much money to spend on one week. I get that this is probably a "nice" problem to have as there are families who never have so much as even a night away.

Wwyd?

Dh just sees the figure on a page and the fact it will all go on one week. I see that. But I'd also like a bit of sun on my back and to watch the kids enjoy a beach holiday even once.

If money is an issue, Eurocamp gigs. Sunshine and child orientated with children's clubs for parent breaks.

Schools in Scotland go back earlier than England, you might get a bargain flight from Edinburgh late August

If you want that kind of holiday abroad I'd go. It sounds like you're wanting to completely relax. Only problem is if they need passports that's another bit of expense.

Yeah I need a renewal passport and the kids need one each. We have recently moved house so didn't want to start applying until we had moved. I'll get onto the passports this week.

If yours is just a renewal and then two children should be quite quick. My DD's came about 2 weeks after I posted the forms.
Your two are a nice age to take abroad as will be exciting going on the plane and they'll enjoy all the kid stuff.

They've never even been on an internal flight. If we did Eurocamp, which looks excellent, then we would drive and ferry probably to Holland or similar.

Mine didn't go abroad until she was 9. Whatever you choose bet they'll love it.
