Oops upside your head, NOT ooh tough times again?

DH was sat on the floor playing with the dog and slapped the floor both sides of him. It reminded me of that kids song they play at parties where they sit in a line and hit the floor left then right etc, so I sat down behind him and started doing it and singing "Ooh tough times again, I said ooh tough times again"

He looked at me like I was actually insane and laughed for a solid 10 minutes, wouldn't tell me what was funny. I thought he just didn't recognise the song and I kept saying "the tough times song!! The kids one!" While he wet himself.

I literally wouldn't back down and kept insisting he had it wrong not me, of course we put it to google and the smug prick has been grinning ever since. Has anybody else heard this version and confidently sung it for their entire life, or just me? Please tell me I'm not alone.

Sorry no idea as I've never heard of either version! Confused

DobbinsVeil · 05/01/2019 18:03

I've only heard the one your husband is talking about. Sorry!

I Don't Believe You Want To Get Up And Dance (Oops Upside Your Head) the Gap Band

HarryDresdensLeatherDuster · 05/01/2019 18:04

Erm the song is 'Oops upside your head' and is by The Gap Band. It is not a 'kids song' it is a disco/funk hit from the late 70s. No idea what you've been listening to!

MrsChollySawcutt · 05/01/2019 18:06

Your DH is spot on its 'oops upside your head'- you know the one where you sit on the floor and rock like a loon?

Gazelda · 05/01/2019 18:07

Back when it first came out and it was cool, I did it in a white strapless dress and white stilettos. Thanks for the memories OP!

maddiie3 · 05/01/2019 18:08

I've misheard the lyrics for so long nothing else sounds right. I'm thinking back to all the times in my life I've sung ooh tough times again loud and proud Blush

I think of it as a kids song just because I remember it being a thing we all did at parties as a child, just last month at my nieces party I was singing along.. Blush

I’ve only ever seen it at weddings.

stayathomegardener · 05/01/2019 18:16

@maddiie3 congratulations you have found the perfect Brexit song.

Will be thinking of you as I hum this over the coming months Smile

Brazenhussy0 · 05/01/2019 18:17

NonaGrey · 05/01/2019 18:17

LowbrowVictoriana · 05/01/2019 18:17

Kids' song???

Do you know it contains the lines

"Jack and Jill went up the hill to have a little fun, stupid Jill forgot her pill and now they have a son" Hmm

Blackpanthers · 05/01/2019 18:18

I think you'll be at a table for one here!

😂😂

insancerre · 05/01/2019 18:20

Oops upside your head
I remember going to discos where they did this
I was way too cool to join in

maddiie3 · 05/01/2019 18:21

God no wonder I had no friends in primary school. I was the weirdo singing about tough times at the school disco.. my whole life has been a lie

Brilliant OP!

On a similar note it is definitely ‘blue in Aberdeen’ not da ba dee 😳

DobbinsVeil · 05/01/2019 18:23

Your alternative lyrics are very MN - resilience is everything. Especially at birthday parties.

maddiie3 · 05/01/2019 18:41

@Rebah Once you hear "I'm blue I would beat off a guy, I would a beat off a guy I would beat off a guy" you will never hear anything else ever again
