I do not like prosecco or champagne

I dislike the taste, it knocks me for six so I never drink the stuff. When offered a glass, I politely decline and have some wine instead stating publicly that I don't like it/cannot drink it. It has been this way forever. So big birthday has come and gone and my drinks cabinet has been replenished with fizz. Fuck sake, if I was vegetarian people wouldn't present me with meat. Arrrggghhhhh - feel guilty for feeling ungrateful and cross.

Have you actually told folk you do not like fizzy plonk?

Babdoc · 05/01/2019 09:53

Why not see if any of your Prosecco loving friends would swap your fizz for a bottle of still wine from their own rack, OP? Or you could regift the fizz to others as birthday presents.

Ah I re read. You have told folk.

You can donate it to me, I'll give the bottles a good home! Wink

Yes. Every time. That's what is so annoying.

It's like everyone who is close to me doesn't actually take in what I say. It's like an assumption that everyone likes fizz because it's a special occasion so who wouldn't. It's so ingrained in the cultural psyche that they cannot comprehend that someone doesn't like it.

I state in in small groups, large groups, one-to-one groups. Every time a bottle is uncorked and I'm offered some I state that I don't drink fizz because I don't like it. But no-one takes heed.

Can you drink it when it’s mixed with orange juice or any other juice. Pomegranate is nice with fizz.

nailclippersandmince · 05/01/2019 09:58

I can just about tolerate a glass of bucks fizz but the thing is, once opened a bottle of fizz has to be consumed. It's not like a wine which can be drunk at leisure over a few days. I'm really not a big drinker.

I'm just feeling a little peeved that no-one actually pays attention.

It is a bit of a first world problem OP.

Regift the bottles maybe?

nailclippersandmince · 05/01/2019 10:00

I generally do. Or take them to events where they will be consumed by others.

I don't really drink and I am not a fan of prosecco. I love it when someone buys me a bottle though because I can regift it.

Yanbu. I have similar trouble with beer drinkers. If I say no thanks I dont like it they carry on pestering me to drink it. When I say no it makes me fart like a bastard, well somehow people seem to accept that.

We dislike wine, Prosecco, champagne etc.

We just regift it/serve it to guests if we end up with any. Occasionally it will be used in a cocktail.
