He's laid the groundwork (saying everyone demands too much of him, derogatory remarks about the place, how he never gets a minute to rest) so just waiting for the announcement.
He's been off since 13th Dec. and I mean off. No helping with DC, household at all whilst I was working and he was moaning up til 28th. Literally just sat in his chair, ipad, headphones in. We're going to IL's (3hr drive) for a week. Plan he comes too, train to work Mon am, then he's at home for the week, train to us after work Friday for weekend. But it's a long train trip - 3 hours - but one MIL does every week to pick DC up for lunch and look after after school, then back late in evening. I've packed for me and DC, him nothing yet. Not amused.
