Scandal at MNHQ? older threads in Chat not deleted as promised!

DadDadDad · 04/01/2019 14:57

OK - I'll confess that was a bit of a clickbaity subject line. Blush

I know many will shrug their shoulders at this one, but when MNHQ first proposed that they would remove the 90-day deletion rule from Chat, there was some objection to its sudden introduction, so they eventually agreed to a delay giving notice that they would enforce it from 9 November. However, threads from 11 August are still there, and that's over 140 days ago, so they should have gone by now!

8th November = 8/11/2018
11th August = 11/8/2018
So I suspect some American-format shenanigans: cock-up rather than conspiracy. Shock

Confused report your post in sitestuff to let them know, not sure why a whole thread is needed!

NopeNi · 04/01/2019 15:07

Previews of incredibly old Chat threads are still available in the app too when you search. You only get the first few lines of the first few posts but it's still surprising - why aren't they just deleted? Confused

DadDadDad · 04/01/2019 15:09

That's a good suggestion, yamg.

I appreciate your point about starting a Chat thread, but given MNHQ weren't great on communicating about this before, I thought it worth having something that more people would see. I was trying to be lighthearted...

Hello there @DadDadDad, thanks for the heads up - we're taking a look into this now.

DadDadDad · 04/01/2019 17:01

OK thanks. Once it's sorted, feel free to delete this thread (ooh, the irony Wink ) and its accusatory subject line. Smile

Yamg, I suspect the reason why DDD started this thread in Chat is because so many people don't even know that the topic Site Stuff even exists.

This thread isn't just about a heads-up to MNHQ, but a heads-up to those who are/have been completely unaware of the issue.

DadDadDad · 04/01/2019 21:22

Sorry, slow coming back. Just to say thanks, PPPP, I think you captured my main motive in a nutshell. At least you and I are interested in the outcome...

That's a very long look you're having, @YetAnotherBeckyMumsnet

Hang on chat isn't deleted? That's why I post there!

SneakyGremlins · 24/01/2019 13:50

@Gaballout it USED to be, not anymore!

DadDadDad · 24/01/2019 13:51

These words appear at the top of this page (and every page in Chat, at least when viewed in a web-browser; might be different on phone):

Threads started in this will no longer be removed after 90 days. A new topic called 90 Days Only can be found in the Other Stuff category of Talk.

As I say, that's been there since November.

Poor show by mumsnet. They are a multi million pound a year site. So why is it technically always run so badly?!

WaterBird · 24/01/2019 14:08

Are these old threads gone yet?
I never really understood the point of making chat threads permanent and introducing 90 Days Only. Even though I've known about the change for awhile, there are some recent threads I would have preferred posting in 90 Days Only that I have ended up putting in Chat instead for traffic. (And beside the point, it's made games like WAG more complicated).

DadDadDad · 24/01/2019 14:11

Threads from August are still in Chat, despite pre-dating the policy change.
